On Saturday, pop icon Justin Bieber announced having ‘partial face paralysis’ and claimed that the diagnosis was a way of his body telling him that he “got to slow down”. In a video message shared on Instagram, Bieber gave his fans and followers a quick yet shocking health update, stating that he is not able to smile or move one side of his face at all. “This is pretty serious, as you can see,” Bieber said in his video message, and demonstrated the fact that an entire side of his face wasn’t flinching, moving or responding.
In his update, Bieber stated that he has been diagnosed with ‘Ramsay Hunt syndrome’. For the unversed, Ramsay Hunt syndrome occurs when virus affects a person’s facial nerve near one or both ears. While minor symptoms of Ramsay Hunt syndrome are as minor as rashes, the syndrome can often cause facial paralysis, and even hearing loss.
For fans of Bieber across the world, the most concerning part of the health update was the lack of an estimated time of recovery. “We don’t know how much time, it’s going to be okay, and I have hope and I trust God and I trust that this is all for a reason,” Bieber said.
