A video of a thief stealing a phone from speeding train as he hangs from a railway bridge has made netizens pause and play the video in a state of absolute bafflement. The ‘blink & you miss it’ video has evoked myriad of responses from the netizens, with some netizens even calling the thief in question ‘Desi Spiderman’.
According to reports, the incident of shocking theft occurred somewhere on the Patna-Katihar Intercity Express earlier this week. A Daink Bhaskar report also stated that the incident transpired on a railway bridge called ‘Rajendra Setu’ which connects Begusarai and Patna.
Locals told media that such attempts of theft are often made as innocent passengers often sit right next to the train’s door. Adventurous thieves often hang on railway bridges and in the blink of an eye, successfully steal passengers’ belongings, including phones and jewellery.
In the video going viral, two passengers are seen sitting next to the train compartment door as the train rumbles across the bridge over the Ganga River. The passengers in question have their phones out in the open. As a passenger stretches his phone to capture the river, his phone is stolen in the blink of an eye.
The Facts of the Matter
Yeddish word ‘chutzpah’ is used to signify an extreme level of confidence and audacity exhibited by a person. Recently, a video is making rounds of the internet where a thief, filled with ‘chutzpah’, steals a person’s phone from a speeding train as he hangs on by the railway bridge. Yes, you read that right – a moving train, a cell phone, and a thief with the audacity to climb on the railway bridge to commit the crime.

Meet the Jhapta Gang
For the unversed, the Begusarai-Patna route is one railway route that has challenged even the veteran cops with years of experience behind them. The local police officials call gang of thieves who often steal valuables from passengers sitting in a moving train the ‘jhapta gang’. The thieves often take a position on a railway bridge or a signal over a bridge, and if someone is not paying attention, they in the blink of a moment put their hand inside the train and let the speed of the train do the remaining job for them.

Video of ‘Indian Spiderman’ Emerges
Recently, a video of a similar instance is making the rounds of social media, with many netizens, including Ranveer Shorey, calling the thief ‘Indian Spiderman’. In the video going viral, two passengers can be seen sitting near the train compartment door. The train is moving fast over the ganga river on the railway bridge. The passenger duo has a phone to capture the moment. Soon, one of them makes the mistake of stretching his hand out to film the river and has a baffled look on his face as he realizes his mobile phone is gone.

Complaint Filed
According to reports, the victim of the theft was identified as Mohammad Sameer, belonging to Ram Para area. After being relieved of his phone, he filed a complaint about the matter and told the police that he was traveling from Patna to Kathihar earlier on June 4.

An India TV News report quoted Katihar Railway SP saying, “Police are already stationed in that area. Their modus operandi is that if someone was talking, they would beat him with sticks, drop his mobile and then take it. Many people have gone to jail in such cases.”
