Veteran Tamil actor and director G Marimuthu passed away on Friday at the age of 57 due to a cardiac arrest. He was rushed to a hospital in Chennai while dubbing for his television serial, but could not be revived.
Prolific Career in Tamil Cinema
Marimuthu made his directorial debut in 2008 with the film ‘Kannum Kannum’ starring Prasanna. He went on to direct one more film titled ‘Pulivaal’ in 2016 which also featured Prasanna in the lead role. As an actor, Marimuthu had been working extensively in Tamil films and television shows over the past few years. Some of his noteworthy acting credits include ‘Vaali’, ‘Jeeva’, ‘Pariyerum Perumal’, Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’ and the hit TV show ‘Ethir Neechal’.
His sudden demise has left celebs and fans in shock. Actors Rajinikanth, Radhikaa Sarathkumar and Prasanna mourned his death on social media. South Indian Artists Association said he will be greatly missed by the Tamil entertainment industry.

Marimuthu started his career as an assistant director in the 90s working with acclaimed filmmakers like Mani Ratnam. He was considered a multi-talented personality who seamlessly transitioned between various roles like director, actor, lyricist and more. Marimuthu’s contribution to Tamil cinema shall be cherished forever.
