In Amethi, video of a minor girl being brutally thrashed over alleged phone theft sparked outrage. 2 persons have been held after the incident. According to reports, the minor girl belonged to the Dalit community and is 16-years-old. In the video gone viral, three persons can be seen hitting the minor girl with sticks, dragging her by hair, and thrashing her further. So far, the police have arrested 2 accused while the search for the third person is still on.

Meanwhile, UP Congress member Ajay Kumar Lallu was arrested on Thursday during his protest against the Yogi Adityanath led state government.

Background

As per the government’s response at the Parliament in December 2021, as many as 1,39,045 crimes against members belonging in Dalit community were registered across the nation between 2018-2020. The list was topped by Uttar Pradesh which registered 36,467 of the total crimes against SC in the last three years. UP was followed by Bihar, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh respectively with 20,973, 18,418 and 16,952 crimes against SC respectively.

With stringent punishments already put in place to curb crime incidents as much as possible, the nation continues to witness horrific violation of human rights due to the age-old problem of caste discrimination.

Recently, a horrific incident was reported from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh where a minor girl belonging to the Dalit community was assaulted brutally.

The Facts of the Matter

In another show of horrific violence against members belonging to the Dalit community, three men brutally thrashed a minor girl in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, the three men mercilessly violated the minor’s human rights over alleged phone theft.

The three men claimed that the minor stole a cell phone from their house. However, when they were asked to present any evidence, they continued alleging without producing any evidence.

The entire incident was also shot on video and was shared online. After the video went viral, the police took cognizance of the incident and two accused were arrested in the matter.

What Did the Video Show?

The video showed two accused holding the minor victim to the floor. Meanwhile a third accused is seen hitting the minor’s feet with a stick. In the video, the accused continued to question the minor about the alleged theft while the minor is heard crying in pain. At one point in the video, the girl is dragged on the floor by one accused who then shakes her by grabbing her hair brutally.

FIR Filed Against Accused, 2 Arrested

After the incident an FIR was registered earlier on December 27. The accused have been booked under multiple sections of the IPC, POCSO Act, and the SC and ST Act. The accused have been booked under Section 342 (Punishment for wrongful confinement), Section 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty).

Further they were booked under Section 7/8 of the POCSO Act and Section 3 of the SC & ST Act along with Section 66 (D) of the IT Act.

Later, DSP Arpit Kapoor added that two accused were arrested., In a video message shared by Amethi Police on Twitter, the DSP said, “A video has come to our notice through social media where a minor girl was seen being thrashed by Suraj Soni and Shivam, residents of Amethi town, and some people whose identities are being verified. Immediately, we contacted the girl and her father. A case has been registered at the Amethi police station,” as quoted by IndiaTimes.

Congress Takes to Street, UP Chief Arrested For Protesting without Permission

After the incident, Congress chief in UP, Ajay Kumar Lallu, staged a protest against the UP-state government. Along with several supporters, the Congress chief took the protest till the Rajiv Gandhi tri-section in Amethi.

Between staging the protest, the Congress chief was arrested by the Amethi police. According to Dinesh Singh, Amethi SP, Mr. Lallu had staged the protest without seeking prior permission.
