Another shocking incident of cyber-fraud was reported from Bhopal where a contractor was duped to tune of Rs. 58 lakhs by fraudster who spoke in woman’s voice and tried to implicate in a sex-racket case. The duster posed as a woman who told the victim that ‘she’ was interested in opening a beer bar in MP Nagar, Bhopal.
The fraudster lured the contractor by claiming that he would stand to make good profit if he adds ‘her’ as a partner. The accused also befriended the fraudster and over the course of time, made him transfer various amounts of money, ranging from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 10 lakhs. After about 20 days, when the contractor asked the fraudster, who identified himself as Deepti, for the money he sent, the fraudster stated that the money was used in a sex racket.
‘Deepti’ further told the contractor that she would implicate him in a sex-racket case. The fraudster gave only one choice to the contractor – keep depositing the money or otherwise she would call the police. Over the course of the time, the contractor was duped of Rs. 58 lakhs. The incident goes back to 2018 and 2019.
The Facts of the Matter
The Jharkhand police recently arrested a cyber fraudster who duped a contractor based in Bhopal of Rs. 58 lakh rupees. The accused was involved in the case that goes back to 2018. The accused reportedly spoke to the contractor in the voice of a girl through a voice changing software. The accused posed as a woman named ‘Deepti’ and on the pretense of opening a beer bar in MP and having him as a partner, duped him on the tune of the above-mentioned sum.
How the Entire Saga Began
The victim, identified as Ratan Lal (40) is a Lalghati, Bhopal resident who received a call back in 2018 where the caller introduced herself as ‘Deepthi’, and told Ratan that she’s interested in opening a beer in MP Nagar, Bhopal and having him as a partner. The accused also promised Lal good amount of profit if he becomes her partner.
Victim Falls in Trap, 10 Lakhs Transferred Within Days
Soon, Ratan fell in the accused’s trap and both of them started talking regularly. The accused also befriended the victim. and initially, the accused asked Ratan to transfer a sum of Rs. 10,000 and 15 days later, a similar demand was made. Slowly and steadily, the accused received about Rs. 10 lakhs from the accused from multiple bank accounts.

Accused Makes Shocking Revelation, Continues Extorting Money
Meanwhile, about a month into befriending Deepthi, the victim asked for his money back. It was then that the accused told Ratan Lal that she operates a sex racket and if Ratan asks for his money, she would implicate him in a sex-racket case.
Further, the accused gave Ratan Lal only one choice, meet the demands of transferring money whenever asked, or get implicated. A scared victim over the course of 2018-2019 transferred Rs. 58 lakhs into multiple accounts of the accused.

Victim Gathers Courage, Complaint Filed
After the accused stopped contacting the victim, he gathered the courage and filed a complaint at a police station. In Bhopal However, for the longest time no progress was made and the application was withdrawn.
Earlier in December, 2021, Ratan Lal was asked to record his statement again. In January 2022, he again filed a complaint at the police station and the police registered a case against the accused. According to a Dainik Bhaskar report, the accused is to be brought from Ranchi to Bhopal. The accused’s identity has not been disclosed as of yet.
