In a fascinating display of innovation and resourcefulness, a man in Bihar spent over Rs 2 lakhs to turn a Tata Nano into a helicopter. The man is now giving the customized vehicles on rent to people who want to make a unique entry into weddings. The person behind the unique innovation has been identified as Guddu Sharma, a resident of Bagaha, Bihar.

Like most groundbreaking innovations, Gudduโ€™s innovation came in the wake of necessity. He saw that there a high demand of helicopters among people who wanted to make a grand entry in their weddings. However, as they were financially constrained, they couldnโ€™t afford to do so. To offer them a unique blend of car and helicopter, Guddu put time and resources and transformed a Tata Nano into a helicopter.

The Facts of the Matter

A simple Google search of the word โ€˜Jugaadโ€™ would take a person to a Wikipedia entry where the word is defined as a Hindi colloquial term which is โ€œan innovative fix or a simple work-around, a solution that bends the rules, or a resource that can be used in such a way.โ€

The word simply means a quick and lasting hack or workaround of a problem with the least amount of resources being spent on it. Recently, a man from Bihar has embodied the word after he turned his Tata Nano into a helicopter.

The Eureka Moment for Guddu and Subsequent Work

A mechanic by profession but an innovator by heart, Guddu observed that there was a significant demand of helicopters by grooms, brides and their families, for making a grand entry at their wedding. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, they were not able to take service of a helicopter to make their weddings extra special.

Identifying the problem, and seeing the demand, Guddu chose a Nano car and started working on it. He sourced expensive sensors to give the car desired features of a helicopter.

Over one and a half lakh rupees were spent in making the Tata Nano look like a helicopter. Guddu further said that if he would make a high-tech version of the helicopter, it would cost over two lakh rupees.

Not First Such Innovation

While, Mr. Gudduโ€™s work can be seen astonishingly fresh and something thatโ€™s never heard before. He himself agreed that heโ€™s not the first person to innovate something of this sort.

In 2019, a Bihar youth also transformed his Nano into a helicopter. An aspiring pilot, Mithilesh Prasad fulfilled his dream of sitting into an โ€˜almost-helicopterโ€™, one that he created himself. Prasad incorporated the basic look of a helicopter into a fully functioning helicopter. Although the helicopter he made out of the Nano couldnโ€™t fly, it possessed every helicopter feature, including its main rotor, a tail boom, and the tail rotor. For his innovation, the 12th class pass out spent Rs. 7 lakhs.
