Brazil Horror Flight: Passengers Hold On to Plane Door as It Opens Mid-Flight, Video Surfaces

In what can righty be dubbed as ‘Brazil horror flight’ incident, passengers desperately scrambled to hold the plane door after it opened mid-flight. The incident’s video surfaced recently, showing a bunch of horrified passengers desperately trying to hold the plane door and make sure it doesn’t pop open completely and suck out what remained in the plane.

According to reports, a handrail hit the engine’s propeller due to which the door opened while the airplane was flying to Jordan. The incident was reported from Acre, the westernmost state from Brazil. The visuals that emerged as an aftermath of the incident show two passengers holding the plane door. The passengers continued to hold the door for about twenty minutes, till the plane landed.

Shockingly enough, no injuries or fatalities were reported. The plane in question was an Embraer 110 Bandeirante, a twin-turboprop aircraft that’s used by military and commercial flights for flying 15-21 passengers.

Incidentally, the pilot, who has not been identified by local reports, completed the entire flight on just one engine’s support.

So, what’s the worst flight you’ve ever had? Was it the one where the weather got really intense-really fast and your stomach churned at every rumble of thunder?

Or, was it the one where you had to wait on the tarmac for several minutes, which strangely enough, seemed like centuries?

Or, was it the one where your pilot had to make an emergency landing after identifying a malfunction in the plane?

While all these incidents are frustrating enough to make one not opt for a flight, a few passengers in Brazil have a story much more terrifying that even most frequent fliers may not have. The hair-raising incident happened when an airplane’s door flew open mid-flight.

According to local media outlets, the incident took place earlier on Thursday when the flight had taken off from Jordao to Rio Branco, capital of Acre. According to passengers on board, the door flew open after one of its support cables broke midflight.

Courageous Passengers Hold On to Door

Few courageous and quick-thinking passengers reportedly swung into action and desperately held the door to the small commercial airplane. The passengers held the door to its place for about 20 minutes, till the plane landed. Remarkably, there were no casualties or injuries reported.

Visuals Show Passengers Sitting Calmly

The images and videos of the incident were soon picked up by local media and later, reputable platforms such as Metro and Mirror also shared the incident. In the video of the incident shared by Metro, at least two passengers can be seen holding on the airplane door while other passengers can be seen sitting calmly, as if this is something they were prepared for.

Flight Ended with One Engine’s Support

The courageous passengers held the door while the pilot who realized that the door’s handrail had hit the plane propeller shut down one of the plane engines. The flight was eventually completed with the support of just one engine.

After the incident, a Rio Branco Aerotaxi spokesperson told that the incident was taken up by the Centre for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents for further accident. The spokesperson also stated that the airplane was repaired after the incident and is all ready to be flown again.
