In a shocking incident reported from Delhi, a 55-year-old woman was murdered by her own daughter and her friend after she reportedly refused to give her money. According to an Indian Express report, the victim threatened to disown her daughter, after which her daughter decided to kill her.
The daughter has been identified as 24-year-old Devyani and her friend has been identified as Kartik Chauhan. Reportedly, Devyani and Kartik decided to make the victim’s murder look like a robbery gone wrong. However, after the police found holes in their statements and the evidences, they decided to interrogate them,
During the interrogation, Devyani confessed of slashing her mother’s throat with a blade. The incident was reported from South Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar and the accused have been apprehended by the police.
The Facts of the Matter
The Delhi Police recently arrested 2 accused – Devyani and Kartik Chauhan – for the murder of 55-year-old Sudha Rani. The victim was murdered by her own daughter Devyani and her friend Kartik, after she refused to give her daughter money and threatened to disown her. According to the police, the accused duo tried to make the crime scene look like a robbery gone wrong and lied that the victim was murdered while resisting the robbery.

Victim was BJP Worker, Found with Neck Injuries
According to the police, the victim Sudha Rani was a Ambedkar Nagar resident in South Delhi. She was reportedly a BJP worker and had also contested with the BJP ticket in the 2007 Municipal Corporation election from Ambedkar Nagar locality. The victim was found lying in the pool of her own blood by the police with injuries on her neck.
Daughter Gives False Story to Police
During the preliminary investigation, Devyani, the daughter of the victim, told the police that her mother was murdered while resisting a robbery. Devyani further alleged that two men had broken into their residence and robbed them on gunpoint.
However, during investigation, the forensic investigation team concluded that Sudha didn’t show any signs of struggle. Further, the investigation team also recovered Sudha’s jewellery that was intact to her. This raised suspicion in the minds of the officials investigating the crime.

Police Finds Daughter’s Story Suspicious, Interrogates her
An Indian Express report quoted DCP Benita Mary Jaikar saying, “We had recorded Devyani’s statement and knew she was at the spot, but we found her activities suspicious. The crime scene was inspected; there were no signs of struggle and nothing, except a few jewellery items, were missing.”
Confession Made, Horrific Truth Revealed
Later when the police interrogated Devyani, she confessed through the ordeal. During the questioning, Devyani revealed that she called her friend Kartik and together, the decided to stage her mother’s murder as a robbery gone wrong. According to the police, the accused had put sleeping pills in the victim’s tea and when the victim was fast asleep, they slashed her throat with a blade.
Accused Duo Finally Arrested
Meanwhile, to make the crime scene look like a robbery gone wrong, Devyani gave Kartik some random jewellery items. After the confession, the police were able to recover the murder weapon from Kartik’s possession. Moreover, 10 jewellery items, and some cash was also recovered from Kartik. On the basis of the evidences, and Devyani’s confession, the police have arrested her and her friend Kartik.
