The double murder in Delhi over “Instagram likes, followers” has sent waves of shock across the national capital. According to reports, at least three people were stabbed to death – in two separate incidents earlier on late Wednesday night. Two of the victims were stabbed over an argument which stemmed from social media likes and followers. In one of the incidents, two youths were stabbed by a girl and her friends.

In the first horrific killing, reported from Delhi’s Mukundpur, two youths were stabbed to death by a girl and her friends. The victims in the matter have been identified as 19-year-old Sahil and 26-year-old Nikhil. Reportedly, the accused girl had called Sahil and Nikhil to meet her.

However, when the duo reached the spot, they were ambushed by the girl’s brothers and friends. An altercation ensued and the youths were stabbed. They were rushed to a hospital later, but eventually succumbed to their injuries.

During investigation it was revealed that the victim and the accused girl were in a relationship, and often fought with each other over number of likes and followers on Instagram.

Meanwhile, in a second incident, an 18-year-old youth was stabbed by his friends during an altercation. The unidentified person, who brought the youth to the hospital, told police that he had seen the quarrel happen at a park in Jahangirpuri.

The Facts of the Matter

In a world where one’s self-esteem and sense of self-worth inflates and deflates by the amount of social media engagement they receive, impulsive crimes over the same issues are getting more common. In one such incident reported from the national capital Delhi, a double murder was reported recently, where the accused stabbed two youths over an argument on “followers” and “likes”.

The horrific murder over the trivial issue was reported from Mukundpur.

Accused Girl Calls Victims to Isolated Spot

According to reports, the victims were identified as 19-year-old Sahil and 26-year-old Nikhil. Sahil was reportedly employed as a guard and Nikhil was employed as a mandi worker in the national capital. Earlier on Wednesday night, the minor girl, who is accused in the case, called the two men at an isolated spot.

Accused’s Brothers, Friends Stab Victims

When the two youths reached the spot, the accused girl’s brothers and friends ambushed them and soon an argument ensued. The argument reached to a point of no return as the girl’s brothers and friends stabbed the duo and fled the scene.

Meanwhile, the victims were rushed to a hospital, where they succumbed to the injuries. An investigation soon ensued, and the police arrested four suspects, including the girl. All the four suspects in the matter are minors.

Investigation Reveals Social Media Angle

During the investigation, it was revealed that Sahil and the minor accused girl were in a relationship and often argued over the number of followers they had on Instagram. During investigation, the police also learnt from locals that the minor accused girl had a tendency to pick up quarrels with other people as well.

A case has been filed under multiple sections of the IPC including Section 302 (murder), and 34 (common intention).
