In a horrific incident reported from Delhi, a 26-year-old mother strangled her 3-month-old daughter to death after quarreling with her husband. The incident was reported from Haiderpur and it occurred on Thursday earlier this week.
The accused woman has been identified as Anjali Devi and has been arrested after being charged with multiple sections of the IPC including Section 302 (punishment for murder). According to reports, the mother took the shocking step against her own newly-born daughter after a quarrel on Thursday morning on the subject of delayed breakfast.
The accused woman and her husband got involved in a heated argument after the woman didnβt prepare a breakfast. The argument escalated to a point where the woman in a fit of rage ended up strangulating her own 3-month-old daughter with a dhaaga (thread) that was worn around her neck.
Background
As many as 1,28,531 crimes against children were registered in India earlier in 2020, making it as many as 350 children being subjected to some crime each day according to NCRB data. This came at a time when most of the country was thrown in a lockdown following the rise in COVID-19 cases in 2020.
Interestingly when these figures are compared with figures from NCRB report from 2019, there was a small 13.3% drop in crimes against children. According to the state-wise analysis, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Bihar amounted to almost half of such crimes (49.3%) in 2020.
Madhya Pradesh amounted to 13.2% of crimes against children, Uttar Pradesh amounted to 11.8% crimes, Maharashtra accounted 11.1%, West Bengal accounted 7.9% and Bihar accounted 5.1% of such crimes.
Meanwhile, the national capital reported yet another horrifying crime against a 3-year-old baby girl. This time, the accused was the childβs own mother.

Enraged following a quarrel over breakfast with her husband, a 26-yer-old woman reportedly strangled her 3-month-old daughter to death earlier on Thursday in New Delhi.
Accused Woman Informed the Police herself
The incident was brought to the policeβs attention after it received a call from the accused herself at around 2.13pm near Haiderpur, Shalimar Bagh. The woman told the police that she strangled her own daughter.
Following the alert, the police rushed to the location and discovered some horrifying details regarding the crime. According to investigation, the accused, identified as 26-year-old Anjali Devi was infuriated due to ceaseless quarrels with her husband Sanjeet Kumar.
Couple Got Into a Fight Regarding Breakfast
The accused lived with her new-born daughter and husband in their Haiderpur residence. Earlier on Thursday this week, the woman and her husband picked up another quarrel, this time over the accused not preparing breakfast.
Woman Choked New-Born Daughter with Thread
The heated argument escalated in no time and in a fit of rage the woman strangled her new-born daughter by pulling the thread around the childβs neck. The police sent the victimβs body for post-mortem.

Mother Arrested, Father Taken Into Interrogation
Meanwhile, a case was filed against the woman under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 302 (punishment for murder). The accused was arrested for her crime. The deceased girlβs father has also been taken into interrogation to uncover any other important details regarding the incident.
