In a shocking incident reported from Delhi, a mother allegedly tied her 5-year-old daughter on the roof under scorching Delhi sun for ‘not doing homework’. An FIR has been already filed against the woman in question who put her young daughter at risk of severe health implications.

The incident was brought to the fore after a purported video showed the girl writhing in pain, crying, and trying to free herself from the ties. The 5-year-old girl’s hands and legs can be seen in the video tried with the rope. According to the Delhi Police, the girl was put under the scorching sun and tied on the roof as part of the punishment for not doing her homework.

An India Today report stated how the child’s mother claimed that she brought the child down after five to seven minutes of punishment for not completing her homework. After the purported video enraged netizens who called out the parents for their inhumane actions, the Delhi Police issued a statement regarding the matter.

“FIR has been lodged under/section 75 Juvenile Justice Act at Khajuri Khas PS. Further investigation underway in connection with the case involving a 5-year-old girl who was left tied on a rooftop under scorching sun for not doing homework,” the statement read. Section 75 of the Juvenile Act pertains to punishment for cruelty to child.

With more awareness, recent parents are now more averse to the idea of corporal punishment. Further, the government too have laid out strict rules for the safeguard of young minds against physical forms of punishment.

However, the act of physically punishing children for trivial matters is ingrained in the Indian conscience, and it may take decades for it to fizz out. Case in point, a mother in Delhi who subjected her five-year-old daughter to physical trauma as a punishment for not doing homework.

An FIR was filed against the mother of a 5-year-old girl after she tied her with a rope and left her under the scorching Delhi sun for not doing her homework. The incident was brought to the fore after a video of the said incident went viral on Twitter.

In the viral gone visuals, the tiny one was seen writhing in pain under the scorching heat. The girl cries as she struggles to get out of the ties.

Woman’s Commission Takes Cognizance

After the video of the incident went viral on Twitter, Delhi Commission for Women took cognizance of the matter and issued a notice to the public. DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal took to Twitter and shared the development about the same.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), also announced taking a cognizance into the matter. In a series of tweets, DCPCR shared that the matter is under investigation and the concerned authorities have been directed to take appropriate actions.

 

“Often misbehaves”: 5-Year-Old Girl’s Father

Meanwhile, the girl’s father, 39-year-old Raj Kumar, told media that the 5-year-old girl often misbehaves with her mother. A tailor by profession, Raj also claimed that they were apologetic about the matter. A Hindu report quoted Raj saying, “We are not able to afford even basic life necessities but we are ensuring proper education for our children. When our daughter was not concentrating on her studies, my wife got upset and decided to punish her.”
