In a tragic incident reported from the national capital, a delivery boy, who had joined the delivery job to get a gift for his sister’s wedding, was recently killed in a brutal hit-and-run case. The victim was identified as 19-year-old Karan Raju, who had joined delivery platform

Zepto and had been working with the startup for the last two months. For the unversed, Zepto promises delivery of groceries in under 10-minutes. Earlier this month Zepto was in the news for raising $200 million at $900 million valuation.

A resident of Goyla Dairy, Karan was returning from a delivery when he met with the fatal accident. The accident took place earlier on Monday this week in Dwarka Sector 10. The 19-year-old boy was rushed to the DDU hospital and was then referred to the Safdarjung hospital. On Wednesday, he succumbed to his injuries, the police reported.

The police stated that a case has been registered against the unidentified accused who hit Raju. As per initial reports, no eyewitnesses have emerged that saw the accident unfold before their own eyes. Moreover, as Karan’s condition was severe before he passed away, his statement was not taken.

Zepto has announced a financial aid of Rs. 10 lakhs for Karan’s family.

Food and grocery startups across the nation are now trying to lure Indian consumers by offering them 15 or even 10-minute deliveries. While the proposition may sound lucrative for the consumers, the logistics continue to remain a challenge for the companies, and the delivery executives are now facing the consequence of the proposition.

Accident Victim had Been with Zepto for 2 Months

Recently, a 19-year-old delivery executive working for 10-minute grocery delivery platform Zepto, was recently killed in a tragic hit-and-run case. The victim was identified as Karan Raju, who had been working with Zepto for the last two months. The incident transpired earlier on Monday this week in Dwarka Sector at around 11.50 pm.

No Eyewitnesses

No eyewitnesses have emerged so far who could give an account to exactly what had happened. Karan was found lying on the road brutally injured and was rushed to the DDU Hospital. He was then referred to Safdarjung Hospital where he took his last breath on Wednesday. The police are reported to be investigating the CCTV footages to nab the unidentified person behind the wheel.

Had Started Deliveries to Buy Sister’s Wedding Gift

An Indian Express report claimed that Karan had started working with Zepto to save money and buy a gift for his sister’s wedding. Karan’s father told media that he would often go with his friends to make deliveries. On the tragic day of his accident, he had gone alone as the delivery location was near his home. 19-year-old Karan is survived by his parents and two sisters.

Zepto Announces Rs. 10 Lakhs Financial Aid

Meanwhile, after Karan’s demise, Zepto issued a statement on Twitter which read –

“The team members from Zepto and Zypp have been with the family since the night of the accident, supporting and ensuring that they bear no pressure from the process or expenses (hospital bills, funeral expenses, etc). In addition, our team is working closely with relevant authorities, who recently filed an FIR, to assist them in any way we can with this case.”

In its statement the startup also announced an immediate financial aid worth Rs 10 lakhs and an insurance grand of Rs. 8 lakhs. “We will continue to extend unceasing emotional and financial support to the family as they get through this difficult time,” the statement further added.
