Disturbing: Four Individuals Booked for Raping Bengal Monitor Lizard in Maharashtra’s Tiger Reserve

In distressing news, four hunters were booked for allegedly raping a Bengal monitor lizard in Maharashtra’s Sahyadri Tiger Reserve. Forest officers also found two guns and two motorbikes from them. The accused had traveled from Konkan to Kolhapur’s Chandoli village to go hunting, as per officers. The cops have put them into custody. Officers also discovered images of rabbits, porcupines, and deer on their smartphones.

The officials have now opted to consult with legal specialists on the charges that will be made against them for the alleged rape of a reptile.

It is inconceivable how low people can sink every day, and how each instance is worse than the last. On Wednesday, four individuals have arrested in Maharashtra’s Sahyadri Tiger Reserve nearby Gothane village for reportedly raping a Bengal monitor lizard. The accused were firstly arrested by the Maharashtra Forest Department on grounds of hunting after being caught on CCTV wandering around in the forest. As the officers searched the suspect’s phone, they discovered a video of the suspect raping a Bengal monitor lizard. According to the officials, the suspects not just raped the four-and-a-half-foot-long Bengal monitor lizard, but also filmed the gang-raping crime. Sandeep Tukaram Pawar, Mangesh Kamtekar, Akshay Kamtekar, and Ramesh Ghag have been identified as the perpetrators.

Under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, the Bengal monitor lizard is a protected species. All four individuals could face 7 years in jail if sentenced in the case.

All Evidence Related to Crime has Been Gathered

All evidence pertaining to the crime has been gathered, and the four accused have been turned over to the forest department for subsequent inquiry. Despite the fact that they are temporarily free on bail, the accused have been ordered to face before the inspecting forest officer each Monday, according to a forest officer as quoted by the media.

Forest officers, who are puzzled by the incident, plan to push the case to the Indian Penal Court to clarify the charges against the perpetrators. As per officials, the accused will be brought before a court and necessary legal action would be initiated against them.
