Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, was recently photographed with his secret twins and their mother, Shivon Zilis, for the first time. The twins, born in November 2021 via surrogate, are among the nine children fathered by Musk.
The photo, shared by Musk biographer Walter Isaacson, shows the 16-month-old twins sitting on the laps of Zilis and Musk at Zilis’ home in Austin, Texas. Musk had invited Isaacson, who has been following the entrepreneur for three years, for an in-person conversation.

Who is Shivon Zilis?
Zilis, 37, is a Canadian artificial intelligence expert who currently serves as Director of Operations and Special Projects at Neuralink, one of Musk’s companies.
Born in Ontario, Canada to a Punjabi Indian mother and a Canadian father, Zilis graduated from Yale University with degrees in economics and philosophy. She previously worked at Tesla and served on the board of OpenAI, the nonprofit AI research company co-founded by Musk.
It was through OpenAI that Zilis first met Musk. The two reportedly conceived the twins via IVF, with Zilis telling coworkers she did not have a romantic relationship with Musk.
Musk’s Growing Family
The birth of the twins in late 2021 came just weeks before the arrival of Musk’s second child with singer Grimes, born via surrogate in December.
In addition to his children with Zilis and Grimes, Musk has five other children from previous relationships – a set of twins and triplets with his first wife Justine Wilson, and another 18-year-old twin.

Musk has stated he does not plan to hand over his business empire to his children. In a recent interview, he said “I am definitely not of the school of automatically giving my kids some shares of the companies, even if they have no interest or inclination or ability to manage the company.”
The world’s richest man continues to make headlines in both his professional and personal lives. Isaacson’s upcoming biography, set for release in September, will provide a closer look at the enigmatic billionaire.
