In a part-hilarious, part-concerning incident, a groom from Gujarat reportedly received lemons as gifts from guests as the prices of the sour fruit continue to soar. The incident was reported by news agency ANI, and images shared by news agency show groom holding two boxes of the now elusive fruit. The incident was reported from Dharoji, Rajkot where a group of friends decided to sweeten the Haldi ceremony of their groom friend and gifted him boxes of lemons.
In a ANI report, the groom’s friend Dinesh was quoted saying, “At this time, the prices of lemons in the state and the country have gone up a lot. There is a lot of need for lemons this season. That’s why, I have presented lemons.”
Lemon, the humble fruit that has been used for centuries to make juices in brutal Indian summers, is not so humble any more. The fruit is slowly slipping away from the grips of a common Indian man with price touching as high as 250/kg.
The Facts of the Matter
What makes for a great wedding gift? Ostentatious jewellery? Personalized home décor items? A His-Her watch set? Or a box of lemons?
Yes, you read it right. With the price of the sour fruit already soaring, why not make lemons a gift for whenever you have to go to a wedding next?
Recently, a group of friends decided to throw all the pretention aside, and selected the most hyped fruit currently in India as a wedding gift for their groom friend. The incident was reported recently by news agency ANI.

The State of Lemon Prices in India
It should be noted that lemon prices have been soaring lately. The price rise is largely attributed to the ongoing summer season. Further, increasing fuel prices have inflated the transportation costs, which has also increased the size of lemons, and other fruits and vegetables. For now, lemon prices in several states across the nation have crossed the Rs. 250/kg mark.
