In a brazen display of mindless tourism, some tourists from Gurugram were seen driving a luxury SUV in Pangong Lake, Ladakh. In a video gone viral, a picnic table with alcohol and soft-drink bottles is also visible in foreground.

The video of the shameful behavior showed an Audi SUV cruising through the well-preserved lake with two men screaming while hanging out of the car’s sunroof. The driver of the SUV is also seen smiling.

The undated video was first shared on Twitter by Jigmat Ladakhi who was left enraged at the act and expressed the same in the video’s caption.



“Such irresponsible tourists are killing ladakh. Do you know? Ladakh have a more than 350 birds species and lakes like pangong are the home of many bird species. Such act may have risked the habitat of many bird species,” the enraged Twitter user wrote.

The video enraged a lot of Twitter users who criticized the tourists for their brazen act. Some netizens also called for action to be taken against the men seen in the video.

The Facts of the Matter

The stunning beauty and rich history of Ladakh’s Pangong Tso lake attracts countless tourists from across the world. Owing to its rich heritage, and the fact that it’s the de facto buffer zone between India and China, the tourist destination only allows groups with an accredited guide and appropriate permits.

However, there are times when some tourists don’t keep in mind the sensitive nature of the ecological spot, and end up acting in a brazen manner, for their own “fun”. Recently, video of some Gurugram flouting the unsaid rules of the land and ruining the balance of the sensitive scenic beauty of Pangong Lake is going viral.

What Does the Video Show?

The undated video was first shared on Twitter by a user named Jigmat Ladakhi. The video shared by the Twitter user showed two man hollering from an Audi’s sunroof while the luxury SUV cruises on the Pangong Lake. Meanwhile, the video also showed a picnic table with bottles of alcohol, soft-drink and some food kept in the foreground.

Ladakh Houses 350 Species of Birds, Says Man Who Shared Video

Ladakhi called out the careless actions by the group of tourists and wrote an elaborate caption expressing his anger. He highlighted how Ladakh houses over 350 species of birds and added how the Pangong lake is the home of several of those bird species. He further added that the actions of the tourists may have risked the habitat of the birds.

“I am sharing again an another shameful video .  Such irresponsible tourists are killing ladakh. Do you know?  Ladakh have a more than 350 birds species and lakes like pangong  are the home of many bird species. Such act may have risked the habitat of many bird species,” his caption read.

Identity of the Driver Revealed, Instagram Account Deleted

The video caused an outrage among netizens for obvious reasons who reshared and retweeted the video to trace the tourists shown in the video. Many netizens pointed out the car number plate which showed that the car was registered from Haryana.

Meanwhile, Ladakhi himself ended up finding the original source of the video. In a subsequent tweet, Ladakhi shared how the original video was shared a year ago from the profile of an Instagram user  ‘@meena_katwalia”. He also asked people to report the profile. The profile now stands deleted.

Enraged Netizens React to the Incident

Many enraged netizens also called for legal actions to be taken against the tourists shown in the video.

“Such a shame. These tourists need to be traced, and imposed a very high monetary penalty that will hurt them and serve a warning to others too. Certain things need to be banned, with stiff penalties for non compliance, including littering or improper disposal of plastic items,” a Twitter user commented.

Other netizens also remarked that the local bodies must work towards not allowing cars to be driven on the lake.
