Popular singer Sonu Nigam recently broke his silence regarding Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files and revealed why he hasn’t watched the film yet. “Have not gathered the courage”, is what the National Award-winning singer had to see when asked about his opinion regarding the film and the atrocities shown in It.

Sonu also remarked about Arvind Kejriwal’s comments about the film and said that the Delhi Chief Minister’s comments were “an insult” to the family of Kashmiri Pandits that have suffered the loss of a family member or a relative in the Kashmiri exodus.

The actor was recently giving an interview to Times Now where he spoke about The Kashmir Files and his decision to not watch the film. “I cry inside when I hear those stories. It’s not just about Kashmir, I’m sensitive about all such crimes. I have not gathered the courage to see the film,” the actor was quoted saying.

For the unversed, Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files is about the 1990s exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits in the valley. The film stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher and Pallavi Joshi.

The Facts of the Matter

Popular singer Sonu Nigam joined the long list of Indian celebrities who gave their two cents on The Kashmir Files, a film directed by Vivek Agnihotri, that received mainstream popularity, and appreciation from Hindus across the country. The film also received acclaim by Indian Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Prime Minister himself.

While the buzz around the film has started to settle down, the film’s name is again making rounds of social media, thanks to a comment by National Award-winning singer Sonu Nigam. The singer-actor recently broke his silence regarding his views on the film when he was giving an interview to Times Now.

Too Sensitive to Violence: Sonu Nigam

In his interview with Times Now editor Navika Kumar, Sonu Nigam claimed that he hasn’t watched The Kashmir Files for ‘personal reasons’. The actor said that he still hasn’t been able to gather the courage to watch the violence and brutality shown in the film. The 48-year-old singer also said that he’s sensitive to violence in general, and his reservation regarding the film is not only because it shows atrocities on Hindus.

“I cry inside when…”

“I cry inside when I hear those stories. It’s not just about Kashmir, I’m sensitive about all such crimes. I have not gathered the courage to see the film,” Mr. Nigam said. He added that he is sensitive to not only the plights of Kashmiri Pandits, but to the plights of communities that have suffered due to rebellious actions.

Sonu Nigam Says CM Kejriwal’s Remarks ‘An Insult’

Interestingly, Mr. Nigam also said that the Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s comment on the film was “an insult” to the families of the victims who couldn’t hold back their tears while watching the film.

It should be noted that earlier in March, Delhi CM had responded to BJP’s demand of making The Kashmir Files tax-free. During a session in Delhi assembly, the CM was quoted saying, “They (BJP) are demanding that the movie be declared tax-free in Delhi. Upload it on YouTube, the movie will become free and everyone will be able to watch it.”

Kejriwal had further alleged that “some people” were earning crores of rupees using the pain of Kashmiri Pandits as a source while “BJP has been sticking posters of the film”.
