In Hyderabad, a team of doctors removed as many as 206 painful kidney stones from the kidney of a 56-year-old patient in a one-hour long surgery. Those who have suffered from kidney stones or are suffering from one know just how painful are these little granules that get stuck in places such as kidney, urinary tract and more.
The extent of the pain goes so far that popular saying “This too shall pass, it may pass like a kidney stone, but it shall pass” has been making the rounds of internet for years.
The 56-year-old patient from Hyderabad was identified as Mr. Veeramalla Ramalakshmaiah. For the past six months, hundreds of kidney stones had made Mr. Veermallas’ life miserable. Although local practitioner he consulted did prescribe him some medications, the pain on the left side persisted.
At one point the pain was so depleting and distracting that Mr. Veermalla wasn’t able to perform his daily chores and duties.
Things went bad from worse before they got better. Due to the ongoing heatwave that intense increase in temperature, the pain became even worse. Seeing no end to his problems, Mr. Veermalla decided to go to a hospital and a surgery followed which saw as many as 206 kidney stones extracted from his body.
The Facts of the Matter
Severe pain around kidney, frequent fever, pain while urinating, blood in urine, and even incontinence in some cases – these are just some of the excruciating symptoms of kidney stones. In its basic form, kidney stones are hard mineral deposits that stick together in urine. As they have to be passed by the urinary tract, they are excruciatingly painful.
Although some stones, if smaller and minor, get dissolved thanks to medications and ample hydration, there are times when matters escalate to a point that a surgical intervention is needed. Recently, a man in Hyderabad had to go through a procedure where a team of doctors extracted as many as 206 painful kidney stones out of him.

Meet. Mr. Veermalla – Man with 206 Kidney Stones
The patient in question is 56-year-old Veermalla Ramalakshmaiah. A resident of Nalgonda, Mr. Veermalla had been going through extreme pain since the last six months due to stones in his left kidney. The situation was bad enough that he was finding it difficult to continue his daily routine and perform chores and duties effectively.
Increase in Temperature Made Things Worse
Unfortunately, the rise in the temperature due to the ongoing heatwave made situations all the more horrifying. As rise in temperatures lead to dehydration, the dehydration in-turn result in more kidney stones formation.
Although he was prescribed medications by his health practitioner, Mr. Veermalla found no end to his pain. Seeing no end, he decided to consult doctor at a hospital in Hyderabad.

Telangana Man Goes Under Keyhole Surgery, 206 Stones Removed
The doctors put him under multiple tests and studied his case history. Soon, it was decided that Mr. Veermalla would be operated for kidney stone removal surgery.
The hour-long keyhole surgery gave doctors time to remove as many as 206 kidney stones. The hospital’s Senior Consultant Urologist, Dr. Poola Naveen Kumar said how ultrasound scan revealed the presence of several left renal caliculi (kidney stones on left side).

What the Doctors had to Say
“The patient was counselled and prepped for a keyhole surgery that lasted for one hour, during which all calculi (stones) were removed, which amounted to 206 in numbers,” Dr. Poola was quoted saying. Dr. Poola also informed that Mr. Veermalla recovered well and was discharged the second day.
Doctors at the hospital noted that the ongoing heatwave may cause dehydration and can lead to the formation of kidney stones in people. In order to stay hydrated, the doctors recommended people consume water and coconut water.
The doctors also recommended people not consume soda water as it may increase dehydration.
