On Tuesday, the first Made-in-India HAL Dornier Do-228 took off its first flight and began its first Commercial operations. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh along with other officials flagged off the aircraft. Ministry of Civil Aviation reported that the flight will operate from Dibrugarh in Assam to Arunachal Pradesh and then to Lilabari in Assam.
Taking into an account of the vision- “AtmaNirbhar Bharat” of PM Narendra Modi, the airline became the first commercial airline to operate Indian-made aircraft only for civil operations. The scheme of ministry was stated as “Providing air connectivity and Aviation infrastructure in North Eastern region” -to develop air connectivity in North East region.
The Facts of the Matter
A historic moment for the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam as Dibrugarh-Pasighat- Lilabari-Guwahati flight is inaugurated under UDAN scheme. With air connectivity getting a boost, rural economy of the state will witness a development in the days to come. The state-run Alliance Air became the country’s first commercial airline to fly an Indian-made aircraft for civil operations.

Financial Investments
Reports taken from Scindia added to more information regarding financial investments. Narendra Modi had already increased the number from 9 to 15 airports in North East. In upcoming days a total of 18 new airstrips and helicopters worth Rs 180 crore would be built, assured the Civil Aviation Minister. The Union Finance Ministry provided Rs 500 crore from which Rs 227 crore will be utilize to improve air connectivity only in Arunachal Pradesh. Moreover, a new Integrated Terminal Building at Agartala Airport worth Rs 438 crore was built. Several other maintenance worth Rs 55 crore was conducted. Thus, in total Rs 2000 crore will be invested in North Eastern region for the sake of up gradation for Civil Infrastructure.

According to Civil Aviation Minister, not only civil aviation had expanded but also the economic development of Arunachal Pradesh has increased. From this onwards, Arunachal Pradesh would be regarded as one of the most important sectors.

What’s the specialty?
Till date, Dornier 228 planes were used by armed forces only. After the event on Tuesday, the state-ran -Alliance Air became India’s first commercial airline to fly an Indian made aircraft for civil operations.
Service which are provided
All the services would be operated by Alliance Air under UDAN. Firstly, regular flight operations in the Dibrugarh-Pasighat- Lakhimpur Assam, would be opetated twice a week from 18th April. Furthermore, the service will expand to Tezu, Mechuka, Ziro and Tuting I’m Arunachal Pradesh with the Dibrugarh airport. The focus is to make North East one of the important sectors.
Contribution of HAL
Until now, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited was manufacturing Dornier aircraft transferring the German technology. Now the Made-in-India 17- seated Air craft would be used for both day and night operation and will connect tier 2 and 3 towns in the region.
