In a bizzarre incident reported a few hours back, an IndiGo airline cargo loaded did a complete ‘Dongri to Dubai’, as he slept in the plane’s cargo and woke up in Abu Dhabi. For the uninitiated, ‘Dongri to Dubai’, is a book by by Hussain Zaidi. Coming back to the incident, the man somehow ‘fell asleep’ in the cargo hold area that’s in the belly of the airplane. He eventually was found safe on arrival at the Abu Dhabi airport. As to the lapse in the process, the Directorate General Civil Aviation has already issued a probe in the matter. As for the man, he was later sent back to India on a return flight.
Background
Who doesn’t like naps! And most of us are guilty of going for a small shut eye during our work ours. It’s one of those guilty pleasures that are generally harmless and have inconsequential effects on our work and daily life.
However, on some jobs, having a shut eye is a strict no-no. From airplane pilot, to doctors on duty, to long-haul truck drivers, some jobs need its personnel to be on its toes at all times. Recently, a cargo loader working for IndiGo airlines found himself in a different country altogether as a consequence of shutting his eyes at the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Facts of the Matter
The monotony of every job – no matter how high stakes – puts people in a position where they find themselves relaxing just for a bit. But what happens when a person finds themselves in a whole different country, courtesy a long nap at the wrong place? A cargo-loader from IndiGo airlines found out the answer to this question.
What Happened to the Cargo Loader
According to reports, the loader fell asleep in the cargo hold of the IndoGo aircraft that was scheduled to fly from Mumbai Airport. The aircraft was being loaded for its flight to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Somehow, the man found the pressurized cargo hold of the aircraft relaxing and he decided to shut eye for a while.

Senior Official Spills Beans on Incident
Eventually, he woke up at the Abu Dhabi International Airport when the aircraft safely landed. A Times of India report quoted a senior official involved in the incident saying, “On December 12, 2021, an IndiGo A320 aircraft was to operate as 6E-1835 from Mumbai to Abu Dhabi. After baggage loading was completed, one of the loaders relaxed in baggage compartment 1 and felt asleep behind the baggage. The cargo door was closed after the hold staff had marked the head count.”
DGCA Issues Probe in Lapse
The lapse will now be probed, as instructed by the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), India’s civil aviation regulatory body. Meanwhile, the loader underwent a medical examination after being detected in Abu Dhabi. His health was stable and normal, and the man was soon sent back to India on a return flight.
Earlier in 2020…
Earlier in 2020, another incident of people ending up at a completely different place from where they intended to went viral. In 2020, as many as 69 travelers who were abord the Buddha Air airline, ended up in a different city than they were supposed to.
The flight was flying from Kathmandu to Janakpur. However, due to miscommunication between the on-ground staff and the pilots, the flight actually landed in Pokhara, a city 255 kilometers from the actual intended destination.
