In Kerala, the news of a group of ‘sanskari’ thieves performing puja before stealing gold and cash worth Rs. 42 lakhs from bank have been making rounds of social media and baffling netizens. The incident was reported from Pathanapuram town in Kerala’s Kollam district. ‘Pathanapuram Bankers’, a private financial institution was closed on Saturday and Sunday when the religiously inclined robbers decided to attack it and flee with cash and other valuables.

On Monday, May 16, Ramchandran Nair, the owner of the financial institution, discovered the robbery when he reached the firm at around 9 am. Soon, police were called to investigate the matter.

On preliminary inspection of the scene of crime, the police were shocked to find a small image of a deity on leaves, betel leaves, tiny spear with a yellow thread, and a bottle of liquor. The police connected the dots and concluded that the robbers performed some rituals before committing the robbery.

Interestingly enough, the robbers also left other suspicious things that baffled the investigator. While investigating, the police found human hair spread across the room. A postor was also recovered that read – “I am dangerous; don’t follow me”.

The Facts of the Matter

A financial institution, a robbery worth over Rs. 42 lakhs, and a few objects used to perform holy ritual. The Kerala police has a unique case pending on its table which involves a group of ‘sanskari’ thieves performing a ‘puja’ before they stole gold and cash worth Rs. 42 lakhs.

Earlier on Saturday and Sunday,‘Pathanapuram Bankers’, a financial institute in Kollam district’s Pathanapuram town was closed. Taking advantage of the situations, some thieves decided to attack it and flee with whatever they can fill their pockets with.

Owner Discovers Robbery

On Monday morning, May 16, the owner of the institute identified as Ramchandran Nair, was horrified to discover the robbery. The police were immediately alerted and a probe soon kicked off.

During the preliminary probe, the police were baffled seeing the objects left behind by the thieves. At the crime scene, there was a small trident with a yellow thread, betel leaves, lemon, liquor, and a picture of Lord Deva placed on three leaves.

Police Discovers Thieves Performed ‘Puja’

The initial evidences were enough for police to work on the theory that the thieves had performed a puja (holy ritual), around the time they stole the cash and gold from the bank. As per the complaint of the owner, there were as many as 100 sovereigns of gold worth Rs 30 lakhs and 4 lakhs in cash kept in the bank.

How the Thieves Committed the Robbery

Initial probe suggested that the robbers managed to get to the three-story building’s second-floor through the roof. They then went on to break the iron grills and pried open the door using iron cutters. In addition to the materials used for the ritual, the police also found other suspicious things at the crime scene.

Poster with “I am dangerous, don’t follow me” Text

Interestingly enough, the entire crime scene was filled with human hair. According to the police involved in the matter, the robbers covered the crime scene with human hair to mislead the police dogs. Moreover, the police also recovered a poster that read – “I am dangerous, don’t follow me”.
