Lucknow Horror: Daughter Stayed with Mother’s Rotting Corpse for 10 Days, Foul Smell Irked Neighbours

In what can truly be dubbed as ‘Lucknow horror’, a woman reportedly stayed with her mother’s rotting corpse for as many as 10 days without informing her immediate family, relatives or authorities. It was only after foul smell emanated from the corpse that the neighbours raised an alert to the authorities. The woman, identified as 26-year-old Ankita Dixit was living in one room while the rotting corpse of her mother, identified as Sunita Dixit, was in another room.

The neighbours, irked due to the foul smell emanating from the house, alerted the police. A team of police soon reached the location and knocked the doors. They heard the woman’s voice talking to someone. After repeated knocking the woman refused to open the door.

Soon a carpenter was made to break open the door. The police were baffled and horrified to see 26-year-old Ankita in a state of confusion and trauma. During interrogation, she couldn’t speak much as to where the foul smell was emanating from. The police made their way to the source of the smell and soon made the carpenter break open the door. Inside the room was the decomposing corpse of Ankita’s mother Sunita.

In a horrific incident reported from Lucknow, a 26-year-old woman spent as many as 10 days with the decomposing corpse of her mother in their house. The duo resided in Indira Nagar locality. The 26-year-old woman was identified as Ankita Dixit while her mother was identified as Sunita Dixit. Sunita Dixit was a retired Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) engineer. She used to live with her daughter at their Lucknow residence after her divorce with one Rajnish Dixit.

Neighbours Irked Due to Smell, Authorities Alerted

According to reports, the incident came to the fore when the neighbours of Ankita and Sunita were irked by foul smell emanating out of their residence. The neighbours alerted the police who rushed to the spot and knocked the main door to gain entry. According to Lucknow Additional DCP Prachi Singh, the police heard the voice of a woman from the other side of the door.

Carpenter Summoned, Police Shocked on Entering House

After trying to gain entry by repeated knocks on the door, and getting denied of the same, the police summoned a carpenter. The carpenter broke open the door and gave the police an entrance to the room. On gaining entrance, the police were shocked to find the woman in a confused and traumatic state.

Corpse of Mother Found in Other Room

The police identified the woman to be the daughter of the deceased and started questioning her. The woman wasn’t giving clear responses to the police. Meanwhile, a team of police broke open another door that was adjacent to the room where the daughter was found. Upon breaking open the door, the police found the decomposing corpse of Sunita Dixit.

26-Year-Old Woman is Mentally Ill

According to police, Ankita is mentally ill and an exact cause of death of her mother, and the events that followed, would only be known following investigation. The police also stated that the 26-year-old daughter of the deceased woman did not alert her immediate family, or anyone else about her mother’s demise.

Similar Incident Occurred in Andhra Pradesh

It should be noted that a similar incident was reported earlier this year from Andhra Pradesh. Earlier in March, 2022, a 10-year-old boy spent four days with his mother’s corpse assuming she was asleep. The boy, identified as Shyam Kishor, reportedly continued with his daily chores, including having bath, dressing up to go to school, eating all while assuming his mother was fast asleep. Further, he also slept near her mother’s corpse with the same assumption.

It was later revealed that Shyam Kishor suffers from mild form of mental-retardation. He had alerted his uncle about his mother not waking up from her sleep. And his uncle found the deceased woman’s corpse at their house.
