On Sunday, September 7, 2025, a tragic gas leak incident occurred at Sagar Shri Oil Company in Pithampur, near Indore, Madhya Pradesh, claiming the lives of three workers. The incident took place in the Bagdun police station area between 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM IST, though some reports indicate it may have occurred closer to 8:30 PM. The victims, identified as Sunil (35), Deepak (30), and Jagdish, all residents of Indorama, Pithampur, were working at the plant when the gas leak occurred.

According to company manager Lokesh Gupta, the leak happened suddenly during routine operations. One worker, Sunil, fainted due to exposure to toxic gas. Two colleagues, Deepak and Jagdish, attempted to rescue him but were also overcome by the fumes. All three workers were rushed to a nearby community health center and subsequently transferred to MY Hospital in Indore. Upon arrival, doctors pronounced them dead, with preliminary findings suggesting asphyxiation due to toxic gas inhalation.

Bagdun Police Station In-Charge Rajendra Soni confirmed that police responded promptly, arriving at the scene around 8:45 PM. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the leak, with initial suspicions pointing to a technical fault. Dhar Superintendent of Police (SP) Manoj Kumar Singh has ordered a thorough probe, and forensic teams along with industrial safety experts are examining the site. The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols at the facility, with families alleging negligence in adhering to safety standards.

The company premises were evacuated, and rescue operations were initiated. The incident has caused widespread grief and outrage among workers and families, with authorities assuring a detailed investigation to prevent future tragedies. Updates are ongoing as police and district administration, led by Dhar Collector Priyank Mishra, continue to assess the situation.
