The video of a Bihar woman getting thrashed with an iron rod over suspicion of extramarital affair has gone viral with the NCW writing a letter to the DGP seeking actions against the culprit. Reportedly, the incident came to the foray earlier on Friday with the police claiming actions against the culprits. The incident was reported from Madhepura, a district in Bihar.
The video making rounds of social media shows the woman’s neighbours planning to set her on fire while a youth beats her up with wooden stick till, she falls on the ground. Further, the culprits of the matter also tried to take the woman’s saree of outrage her modesty.
The woman tries to hide behind a man, allegedly her husband, who tries to fight the youth carrying the iron rod. The true story of the woman seems convoluted so far with initial reports mentioning her getting assaulted due to suspicion of extramarital affair, while the victim herself claiming she was subjected to an attempt of gang-rape.
The Facts of the Matter
It had not been even a month since the gruesome Alirajpur incident that another equally horrifying incident recently emerged from Bihar. To bring our readers up to speed, back on March 11, a tribal woman was sexually assaulted in public by men in Alirajpur, Madhya Pradesh.
In the similar lines, a woman in Bihar was recently reported to have been thrashed with an iron rod over suspicion of extramarital affair. According to reports, the incident was reported from Madhepura and the victim was assaulted by her neighbours.

Woman had Gone to Nearby Field, was Carried Off by Neighbour
Reportedly, the victim, who’s in her late 20s, had gone to a nearby field to empty her bowels due to an upset stomach. This was when her neighbour Shanker Das picked her up from the fields and brought her around other people to then thrash her brutally. The entire incident was caught on video, the distressing visuals of which, are making rounds of the internet.
Accused Youths Tried to Take Woman’s Saree Off
In the video gone viral, a youth can be seen carrying an iron rod and thrashing the victim relentlessly. The accused man further tries to take the victim’s saree off in order to outrage her modesty. After the woman was hospitalized, she alleged that she was also subjected a gang-rape attempt by the same person who thrashed her and other villagers.

NCW Takes Cognizance, Seeks Immediate Action
After the visuals of the incident viral on Twitter, National Commission of Women took cognizance of mission and sought immediate actions from the relevant authorities. “@NCWIndia has taken cognizance of the gruesome incident. Chairperson @sharmarekha has written to DGP @bihar_police to register FIR immediately & to arrest all the accused. NCW has also sought best medical treatment & safety for the victim. Action taken must be apprised within 7 day,” the commission’s tweet read.

Woman was Accused of Extramarital Affair
While quoting a family member of the victim, a TOI report stated that the accused youths set a false story of woman being involved in an extramarital affair. The villagers had apparently decided to hold a panchayat and asked the woman to speak at the panchayat.
However, the woman alleged that the accused youths had tried to outrage her modesty and this was when the accused youth started to beat the woman brutally in public view. The TOI report also quoted the Madhepur Station House Officer-cum-inspector Surendra Singh saying, “An FIR has been lodged in connection with the incident and raids are on to arrest the accused villagers.”
