Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra and her husband Nick Jonas welcomed their first baby through surrogacy on Friday, January 21. Both Priyanka and Nick took to their respective social media accounts to share the news. The power-couple’s identical statement on Instagram read, “We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family.”

Earlier in the 2022 Vanity Fair cover story, Priyanka had hinted on the development and had said, “They’re a big part of our desire for the future. By God’s grace, when it happens, it happens”. Priyanka Chopra had married Nick Jonas back in December 2018. The former Miss World and The Voice coach met in 2017, and after the courtship decided to get tie the knot.

A few months after Bollywood actor Preity Zinta and her husband Gene Goodenough welcomed twins through surrogacy, actor, philanthropist and entrepreneur Priyanka Chopra shared a similar news. The Fashion actor took to her Instagram and shared the news of welcoming baby through surrogacy. The former Miss World and her husband Nick Jonas issued an identical post confirming the news and seeking privacy so that they can focus on their family.

Taking to Instagram, Priyanka added a post which read, “We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family”. The actress also tagged Nick in her post.

Celebrities Comment on Announcement

Celebrities from India and across the world commented on the post shared by Priyanka. Neha Dhupia dropped heart emojis and commented, “Congratulations @priyankachopra @nickjonas … best news ever !!!”

Shefali Shah, Priyanka’s co-actor from Dil Dhadakne Do, commented, “Congratulations pc lots of love n blessings to the lill one.”

‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ actor Bhumi Pednekar dropped hearts and congratulated the couple while filmmaker and music composure Vishal Bharadwaj dropped heart emojis and commented, “sending love. Mubarak.”

Meanwhile, the newly coronated father also issued an identical post on Instagram. The pop-star received comments from his elder brothers Kevin Jonas and Joe Jonas. Both Kevin and Joe commented with heart emojis.

Priyanka – Nick Welcomes Baby Girl: Reports

While neither Nick nor Priyanka confirmed the gender of their new baby, Us Weekly confirmed that the couple has welcomed a baby girl through surrogacy. Furthermore, the entertainment publication also cited source which added that “friends are excited” for both Jonas and Nick who are hoping to have “at least two children” in future.

Earlier in her interview to Sunday Times back in January 2021, the Quantico actress jokingly agreed that she would like to have a large family. “I do want children, as many as I can have, a cricket team? I’m not so sure,” she was quoted saying.

List of Celebrities Opting for Surrogacy

Back in November, it was Preity Zinta and her husband Gene Goodenough who welcomed twins through surrogacy. The couple had reportedly named their children Jai Zinta Goodenough and Gia Zinta Goodenough.

Taking to Instagram, Zinta wrote, “A heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and to our surrogate for being part of this incredible journey. Loads of love and light – Gene, Preity, Jai & Gia.”

Priyanka and Preity are now part of a long list of Indian celebrities who have broken stereotypes and have had children via surrogacy. Back in 2013, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan welcomed AbRam, their youngest son through surrogacy. Similarly, ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ Aamir Khana and his ex-wife Kiran Rao too had welcomed a son via surrogacy.

Filmmaker Karan Johar, actor and businesswoman Shilpa Shetty Kundra, choreographer-director Farah Khan, and actor Sunny Leone have also welcomed their children through surrogacy.
