In a terrible tragedy reported from Rajasthan, a groom was among the 9 people who were killed in a road accident after their car fell into the river on Sunday morning. They were en route to the wedding venue itself, making the tragedy further harrowing and heartbreaking.

The accident occurred just a few hours before the wedding was scheduled to take place and was reported from Kota, Rajasthan. The wedding party was on its way to Ujjain Madhya Pradesh when it fell in the Chambal river sometime around 7:50 AM.

According to initial investigation, the car driver reportedly lost the control of the car when it was on a bridge. After the incident, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condoled the deaths of the deceased and announced ex-gratia for the kin of the deceased individuals.

The Facts of the Matter

The excitement of a joyous wedding celebration soon turned into horror when a groom was among the 9 people who were killed in a road accident. The wedding party was reportedly en route the venue in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. All the 9 persons were declared dead after their vehicle fell into the Chambal river in Kota district earlier on Sunday morning.

Car Had Fallen 72-Foot Deep Into River

Earlier on Sunday morning around 7.50 AM, the police were alerted by the locals about the mishap. The police swung into action and a rescue operation was quickly initiated. In the first phase of the operation, the rescuers pulled out 7 bodies from the car. The car had reportedly fallen about 72-foot deep into the river water. After some persistence search later, two more bodies were pulled out from the water.

Driver May Have Gotten Drowsy: Senior Police Official

According to Kota City Superintendent of Police, Keshar Singh Shekhawat, the wedding party was heading towards Ujjain from Sawai Madhopur. He further added that the 9 people that were on the car died after the car fell from an old bridge into the Chambal river.

โ€œPrima facie it appears that the car lost control and fell into the river while crossing the bridge,โ€ the Kota City SP further added. The senior police official further stated that the driver most likely lost the control of the vehicle due to drowsiness.

After the accident, the police revealed the deceased personsโ€™ identities. The groom was identified as Avinash who was 23-years-old. Others were Islam Khan (35), Kushal (22), Shubham (23), Rahul (25), Rohit (22), Vikas (24) and Mukesh (35).

CM Ashok Gehlot Expresses Grief

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took to Twitter and condoled the deaths and express his grief. โ€œThe deaths of 9 people including the groom after the car of the wedding procession in Kota fell into the Chambal river is very sad and unfortunate. After talking to the collector, got information about the whole incident. My deepest sympathies are with the bereaved family, may God give them strength to bear this loss, may the soul of the departed rest in peace,โ€ CM Gehlotโ€™s tweet read.

Rs. 2 Lakhs Ex-gratia Announced

He also announced a Rs. 2 lakh ex gratia for the kin of the deceased persons. โ€œPWD Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Jatav has been instructed to go to the spot. In the Kota accident, instructions have been given to provide assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the dependent of each deceased and a maximum amount of Rs 5 lakh to two or more dead from a family,โ€ his tweet read.
