While domestic abuse of men gets pushed in the rug often, the recent incident of Rajasthan woman getting caught on cam thrashing her husband with a bat has sparked conversation around the matter.
The husband in question has sought security from the court and has field a domestic violence case against the woman seen in the video going viral on social media. The alleged victim of the domestic abuse has been identified as Ajit Yadav and the alleged accused has been identified as Suman.
In the video going viral, Ajit can be seen being cornered by his wife. He is seen running away from Suman and is seen protecting himself from the potential assault with cushions. Meanwhile, Suman is seen carrying a cricket bat, swinging it relentlessly as her husband tries to fend off the attack. At one point in the video, the man is resorted to hide behind the dining table, evading the fury of his bat-swinging wife.
A school principal by profession, Ajit got married to Suman seven years ago and they have a six-year-old child. In his complaint, Ajit has alleged that his wife has been beating him for over an year. He claimed that he was always interested in saving his marriage by amicable means.
The Facts of the Matter
While women and girl child in India continue to subjected to fatal assault, sexual harassment, and horrific rapes, the idea of domestic violence against men is often pushed under the rug. Moreover, in a hypermasculine ‘mard ko dard nahi hota’ Indian society, where men accepting to be abused or harassed is often made fun of, such cases go under reported.
However, the case of a wife in Rajasthan running after her husband with a bat with a clear intention to assault him has sparked a debate about the matter. The victim of the alleged case of domestic violence has been identified as Ajit Yadav, a school principal and the accused is Suman, his wife of seven-years.
Ajit has submitted footage of CCTV installed at his home to the court. The CCTV footage shows him trying to fight the fury of his wife.
What Does the Video Show?
The video shows Suman cornering Ajit with a cricket bat and swinging it relentlessly. Meanwhile, Ajit can be seen covering himself with a pillow to fend off the hits by the bat. Throughout the video, Ajit can be seen running around, trying to evade his wife, who doesn’t drop the bat even for a second. The video also shows the couple’s young son witnessing his father being assaulted at his mother’s hand. In a separate footage, Suman can be seen threatening her husband by lifting a bat and cornering him

“Tears off clothes, thrashes me”: Rajasthan Husband Alleges
A TOI report quoted Ajit giving an account of his troubled marriage with wife. “My wife tears off my clothes, thrashes me for no reason. Since I am a principal in a school, I always want to sit for an amicable solution to my wife’s problems. Hence, I never told anyone that she thrashes me with a bat. Sometime ago, I had installed CCTV in my living room and other rooms. I have approached the court for intervention into the matter,” he was quoted saying.

Wife’s Statement Not Taken Yet: Police
For now, Ajit has sought intervention by the court and security for himself against the wrath of his wife. According to Superintendent of Police Vipin Sharma, the court has directed police to investigate in the matter. He also added that the police is yet to record the wife’s statement, and only after the statement, can the police elaborate on the issue.
