A fascinating animal rescue was caught on cam where the Archimede’s Principle was used to rescue a young elephant that had fallen into a ditch. The incident happened in Midnapore, West Bengal and the video was shared by IFS officer Parveen Kaswan, who’s known for sharing videos and images from the animal kingdom to raise awareness about the same. In the video that has since gone viral, a young elephant can be seen struggling and making desperate efforts to get out of a deep ditch. The elephant’s efforts came to no avail and eventually, it was a simple yet crucial scientific Principle that saved the youngling’s life. The rescue officials simply filled the ditch with water and let the animal float up. In the end, they used ropes and pulled the young elephant out of the ditch.

The Facts of the Matter

Greek mathematician and physicist Archimedes introduced to a simple yet crucial Principle which stated that – “The upward buoyant force that is exerted on a body immersed in a fluid, whether partially or fully submerged, is equal to the weight of the fluid that the body displaces and acts in the upward direction at the center of mass of the displaced fluid”.

Little did the Greek physicist know that his principle would be the foundation on which submarines and ships would be manufactured, and animals will be rescued.

Yes, you read it right. Recently, rescue officers made use of the Archimede’s Principle to rescue a young elephant that had fallen in a ditch in West Bengal.

Rescue Operation Started from 1 AM, Went till 4 AM

The fascinating theory – to – application was shot on a video which was shared on Twitter by IFS officer Parveen Kaswan. According to reports, the forest department officials were alerted that a young elephant had fallen into a deep ditch earlier on Sunday. The forest official acted on the distress call and a rescue operation was soon initiated. The rescue op started on 1 AM and had a successful completion by 4 AM.

Taking to Twitter, IFS officer Parveen Kaswan wrote, “An elephant fell into a ditch in Midinapur. Now how to rescue it. By applying Archimedes’ principle. Watch to believe”. In the video, the elephant can be seen struggling desperately to come out of the ditch. The elephant uses its trunk to come out, but due to its weight, its attempts go into vain.

A team of forest officers then applied the famous Archimède’s Principle and started filling the ditch with water. Soon, the water made the elephant float up. In the end, the forest officials simply used ropes to pull the elephant from the deep ditch.
