Yevgeny Prigozhin, the Chief of the Wagner Group – a private mercenary organization responsible for much of Russia’s aggressive actions in Ukraine – stated that he intends to completely break down the current military structure in Moscow. He expressed his intents by way of an audio recording in which he essentially called out to Russians to join his cause, as he deemed it to be justice driven. He even went as far as to suggest it was not a military coup, but a pursuit of righteousness. Furthermore, he threatened any would-be opposition by saying his crew would ruthlessly “destroy all that stands in their way.”

After months of conflict between Yevgeny Prigozhin, leader of the Wagner Group of mercenaries, and the Moscow military leadership, a dramatic event occurred when the Wagner Group broke into the military headquarters in Rostov-on-Don. This incident caused an uproar on social media, with many people taking to Twitter to speculate on the motive behind the intrusion.

Following a statement from Russian oligarch Yevgeniy Prigozhin, security measures in Moscow have been strengthened significantly. Critical government facilities have been put under further protection, and greater scrutiny has been given to potential threats. Russian General of the Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov has publicly called on Prigozhin to cease his actions, noting that “the enemy” is likely anticipating political turmoil in Russia. Such a warning implies the potential of divide and conquer tactics among those considered to be enemies of the Russian state.

Concurrently, Ukrainian authorities are keeping tabs on the internal squabbles that have arisen in Moscow, with the intention of hoping that competition for power and wealth will result in a type of assumed ‘cannibalism’ between the opposing Russian factions.
