In our weekly dose of Sunday inspiration, a Uttarakhand farmer’s son landed a Rs. 2.05 crores offer from Uber. The small-town boy is reportedly Rohit Negi who’s a student of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. Negi, a second-year MTech student from India’s most elite engineering institute received the offer from the ride-sharing technology giant, proving that dreams seen from open eyes can turn true. According to a report, Negi’s basic salary will be Rs. 96 lakhs pa, and his Cost to Company (CTC) will be Rs. 2.05 crores.

It should be noted that earlier this year, a farmer’s son from Sonipat received a package of Rs. 67 lakhs from Uber.

Government run engineering institute Indian Institute of Technology and business school Indian Institute of Management are one of the most elite institutes in the country, and across the world. As such, it trains and churns out some of the most hard-working and visionary talents to major companies in the world. These talents also go on to fetch some unbelievable salaries that are far beyond the comprehension of a common Indian.

Given that IITs and IIMs have an acceptance rate of less than 1%, a student nurtured in these prestigious institute go on to become the pioneer in their respective fields.

The Facts of the Matter

Several centers of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) started their placement session earlier this month. This includes IIT-Bombay, IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Madras, etc. As expected, larger multinational companies came to fetch some talents with their deep pockets.

In one such placement session at IIT-Guwahati, a student got a salary offer worth Rs. 2.05 crores from ride hailing tech giant Uber. What’s more is that the student comes from a humble background, and is the son of a farmer.

Rohit Will Take Home Rs. 96 Lakhs as Basic Pay

The student is Uttarakhand’s Rohit Negi, son of a farmer father and homemaker mother. He’s a second year MTech student and is the first person in his district to have received such a huge salary offer. According to the reports, if Rohit chooses to accept the offer, he will be working as a software engineer at Uber, and will take home a basic salary of Rs. 96 lakhs per annum.

Farmer’s Son Studied from Private Institute, Cracked GATE to Get Into IIT

Interestingly, Negi’s graduation came from a private engineering institute in Uttarakhand where he was unable to get good enough marks. However, he turned the tide for himself, and worked hard to get decent rank in GATE exams, through which he got an admission in an IIT.

Monthly Expenses Rs. 10,000; Package of Rs. 2 Crores an Out-of-the-World Feeling

An IndiaTimes report quoted him saying, “I come from a lower-middle-class family. My family’s monthly expenses are less than Rs 10,000. My father is a farmer and my mother is a homemaker. My sister is a nurse. A package of Rs 2.05 crore is an out-of-the-world feeling for my family. They are so happy.”

Similar Inspiring Story Broke Earlier This Year

Earlier this year, Avnish Chhikara, son of a farmer made the buzz for receiving a package of Rs. 67 lakhs from Amazon. Moreover, Avnish didn’t pass out from IIT but from Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology in Sonipat.

A dedicated student, Avnish gave at least 10 hours to studies during his college years. His hard work paid off when he applied for an internship in Amazon where he earned a monthly package of Rs. 2.40 lakhs. In the internship, he showed his mettle, and thus, got an offer of Rs. 67 lakhs.

Speaking to Times of India, Avnish also claimed that he was expecting his package to touch the Rs. 1 crore mark in the upcoming year.
