In a horrifying incident, an elderly man in Maharashtra ended up firing his daughter-in-law for not serving breakfast with morning tea. The woman was rushed to hospital and later succumbed to her injuries.

The accused has been identified as 76-year-old Kashinath Pandurang Patil and the victim has been identified as 42-year-old Seema Rajendra. The incident was brought to light after the accusedโ€™s other daughter-in-law filed a police complaint against the accused regarding the matter. The incident was reported from Thane city and occurred earlier on Thursday.

The accused was booked under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act. After firing at his daughter-in-law and fatally injuring her, the accused fled from the crime scene and is still not arrested. The police have reportedly formed multiple teams to catch the accused. Further, the police is also trying to ascertain whether the accused gunned down the victim over some other matter.

According to the Thane Police Commissionerate a significant surge in the number of crimes was witnessed in 2021 compared to 2020. The crimes included murders, attempt to murders, house trespassing, house thefts, motor vehicle thefts, robberies, etc. The Thane Police Commissionerate registered as many as 3,665 serious offences in 2021 compared to 2,900 offences registered in 2020. The detection rate had a marginal shift with 1,272 cases out of 2,900 being detected in 2020 while 1,638 cases being detected in 2021. The detection rate was at 44.69% in 2021 against 43.86% in 2020.

Meanwhile in Maharashtra, the number of crime cases came down from 5,09,433 in 2019 to 4,58,667 in 2021. This was a drop of 50,000 cases. According to Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Shambhuraj Desai, the number of crimes for the calendar year of 2020 was not taken into consideration due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Facts of the Matter

In what can be considered horrible consequences of bad temper, a woman was fatally shot by her father-in-law after she didnโ€™t serve breakfast to the accused with his morning tea. The incident was reported from Thaneโ€™s Rabodi area and occurred earlier on Thursday morning. A light was shed on the matter after the accusedโ€™s second daughter-in-law filed a complaint at the Rabodi police station.

Man Gets Annoyed with Breakfast Delay, Shoots Woman in Stomach

As per the complaint, the victim Seema Rajendra was fatally shot by her father in-law Kashinath Pandurang Patil due to delay in breakfast being served with morning tea. The accused was reportedly annoyed at the delay in his breakfast being served, at which point he used his licensed gun on Seema. Kashinath opened fire at the victim and shot her in the stomach. Following shooting the victim, he fled the scene.

Victim Was a Mother of 17-yo-Daughter

The 42-year-old victim was a mother of a 17-year-old daughter. She was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment. However, she later succumbed to her injuries. According to the complainant the incident took place in the presence of all other family members.

A police officer involved in the matter was quoted saying, โ€œWe have formed teams to nab him and registered a case of murder against the accusedโ€.

Man Booked Under IPC, Arms Act

The elderly accused has been booked under multiple sections of the IPC and Arms Act, as per Senior Inspector Santhosh Ghatekar. The accused has been booked under IPC Section 307 (Attempt to murder), and Section 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation). No arrests have been made as of yet.
