A power department employee of Utter Pradesh, Gokul Yadav sets himself on fire, after his boss and another line man, Jagatpal asked him to ‘send his wife for a night’ in exchange for his transfer.

According to Police reports, Gokul Yadav, age 42, ignited himself at his residence on Sunday in Patiala town. Before taking this extreme step, on Saturday, Gokul recorded a video of himself telling the allegations. The victim was rushed to the hospital at Lucknow where he died after suffering from third degree burns.

The video of his dying statement went viral where Gokul said Junior Engineer had asked him to ‘send’ his wife for a night and in exchange he would be transferred according his choice. The Junior Engineer and another lineman Jagatpal not only asked his wife for a night but also 1 lakh rupees bribe for his transfer, according to sources.

After the incident, the accused junior engineer and Jagatpal had been suspended.

The Facts of the Matter

Often tightly knitted families are affected by demoralized mind-set. Many innocent people become victim of such circumstances and take extreme step after suffering mentally, physically and emotionally.  Such case was that of Gokul Yadav, who set himself on fire after suffering heartbreaking humiliation.

According to Gokul’s wife’s statement, her husband was posted at Aliganj, 50kms away from his home. It was getting hard for him to travel to work. That’s why he asked his boss to transfer him nearer to his hometown. it was also revealed, the Junior Inspector was torturing Gokul for past three years. “He went into depression, started taking medication but they did not spare him”, Gokul’s wife said.

No Action Taken By Police

According to sources, Gokul had approached the police for help and complained against the Junior Engineer but no action was taken. He could not tolerate anymore and took the final step on Sunday.

According to Rajkumari, Gokul’s wife’s FIR report, the accused Junior Engineer Nagendra Sharma also demanded a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh for Gokul’s transfer.

Police Superintendent Sanjiu Suman assured that the FIR has been lodged against Junior Engineer. Also, the video tape made by Gokul would be taken into account for further investigation.
