A US woman is set to receive $5.2 million in damages from car insurance company after she caught STD in her ex’s car. Reportedly, the woman, native of Missouri, US, contracted human papillomavirus, a sexually transmitted disease, from her ex-partner after she had sex in his car. The ex in question was insured by the GEICO General Insurance Company.

Back in 2021, the woman, referred as M.O. in the court documents, approached the insurance company and announced seeking compensation for the damages she endured. Reportedly, the ex-partner was aware of having HPV and throat cancer as well, however, he continued with the ordeal in the car without telling the woman about the risks.

After hearing the matter, the woman was awarded $5.2 million as ruled by the Jackson Country Circuit, paid by GEICO. Meanwhile, the insurance company challenged the case and took it to the Missouri Court of Appeals. However, the three-judge bench found the ruling to be valid.

It should be noted that Geico still may be saved from spending the $5.2 million in damages. There’s already a related federal court case filed by the insurer and the insurer has contested that the claim is covered by its auto policy.

Case Dates Back to 2021

Back in 2021, M.O. approached GEICO and informed the insurance giant that she will be seeking damages after contracting HPV (human papillomavirus) from her now-ex, then-partner while having sex with him in his vehicle. She claimed that the boyfriend knew about the status of his health, and the concerns regarding the same, and despite the knowledge, had unprotected sex with him.

Arbiter’s Ruling

During the proceedings, arbitrator revealed that the couple’s indulgence in the vehicle “directly caused, or directly contributed to cause” the STD. After the proceedings, the court awarded M.O a sum of $5.2 to be paid by the auto insurance giant, ruling that the man was liable in the matter.

The insurance company then took the ruling and challenged it at the Missouri Court of Appeals. However, the three-judge bench found the ruling to be valid.
