“17 Years and Two Children” later prolific film maker Hansal Mehta recently married his longtime partner Safeena Husain in an intimate ceremony. The news of the marriage was confirmed by Mr. Mehta himself, who took to Instagram and shared some adorable pictures of their marriage ceremony. Following the confirmation, Rajkummar Rao, who has collaborated with Mr. Mehta on multiple projects, also took to Instagram and wished the couple. Reportedly, Mr. Mehta got married at Taj Campton Place, San Francisco.

On Wednesday, Mr. Hansal Mehta took to Instagram and shared some beautiful pictures of his wedding ceremony and also penned an emotional note to go with them. “So after 17 years, two children, watching our sons growing up and chasing our respective dreams we decided to get hitched.”

Calling their wedding ceremony “impromptu and unplanned”, Mr. Mehta further wrote, “Our vows however were truthful and but for this little ceremony they would never have been said. Ultimately love prevails over all else. And it has.”

Safeena Hussain is a social-preneur. The daughter of late actor Yusuf Husain, she is known for founding Educate Girls, an organization that works for girl education. She has also received the Women Transforming India award from Smriti Irani in 2017.

On Wednesday, the ‘Shahid’ director took to Instagram and penned a heartfelt emotional note about the new development. Along with the caption, Mr. Mehta also shared some adorable pictures from his low-key wedding ceremony. In the pictures, Mr. Mehta and his now wife Safeena Husain can be seen signing their marriage documents. While Mr. Mehta is wearing a beige coloured suit over a casual shirt, Mrs. Safeena is wearinga. Traditional pink coloured outfit.

The surprise received overwhelming reaction from celebrities and fans of Hansal Mehta alike. Taking to the comments section of the post, Shahid and Citylights actor Rajkummar Rao wrote – “Congratulations my fav couple. You guys complete each other. I love you both.”

Scam 1992 Actor Pratik Gandhi, who also starred in Hansal Mehta directed Modern Love episode ‘Bai’ commented – “This is lovely! Well it’s inspiring and pressurising too. @bhaminioza is already giving me heard looks.”

Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, Vishal Bharadwaj, actor Manoj Bajpayee, Huma Quireshi, film critic Rajiv Masand, also congratulated the couple.

Who is Safeena Husain?

For the unversed, Safeena Husain is a social-preneur who founded ‘Educate Girls’, a New Delhi based organization that advocates girl’s education in India. Husain was elected as one of the Asia’s 21 Young Leaders by the Asia Society in 2011. She was also the winner of NITI Aayog’s Women Transforming India Award in 2017 and won the ET Prime Women Leadership Award in 2019. She’s the daughter of late actor Yusuf Husain, who passed away earlier in 2021 due to COVID-19.
