Bollywood veteran actress Manju Singh, known for her roles in Gol Maal, Adhikar, passed away at 73 earlier on Thursday. The veteran actress passed away due to cardiac arrest. The reports of her passing away was confirmed by new-age lyricist Swanand Kirkire who took to Twitter and shared a condolence message. In his condolence message, Kirkere mentioned how Manju Singh brought him to Mumbai to write for her show on Doordarshan.

It should be noted that Manju Singh was an instrumental force in front and behind the cameras. A pioneer in the Indian television industry, she produced shows like Swaraj, Ek Kahani, Adhikar and more., While Swaraj was based on short-stories written in regional languages, Adhikar was a show based on women’s rights.

Lately, she was actively involved in various international film festivals for both children and adults. In 2015, she was recognized by Indian Government’s Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE), for her immense contribution in the field of arts and education.

On Thursday, veteran actress and producer Manju Singh passed away at an age of 73 due to cardiac arrest. She was known for her roles in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Gol Maal among others. Fondly remembered as ’Didi’, she also presented children’s program Khel Khelone for 7 years.

Her passing was confirmed by new-age lyricist Swanand Kirkire who took to Twitter and penned a heartfelt condolence message. “Manju Singh is no more! Manju ji brought me from Delhi to Mumbai to write her show Swaraj for Doordarshan! She made many wonderful shows Ek Kahani, Show Time etc for DD. Ratna from Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Gol Maal, how can we forget your love… Goodbye!”.

“From ‘Manju Didi’ to Manju Nani’”: Family Statement

Earlier on Thursday, the family released a statement regarding Manju Singh’s demise which read – “With profound grief, we inform you about the demise of our Manju Singh. She lived a beautiful and inspiring life, devoted to her family and her craft. From ‘Manju Didi’ to ‘Manju Nani’ she will be truly missed by all”.

Family Awaits Granddaughter’s Arrival from New York

Her sister Suparna was quoted in a PTI report saying, “She passed away due to a stroke at around 10 am on Thursday at her residence. Reportedly, her last rites are to be performed on Saturday as the family awaited the deceased actress’s granddaughter’s arrival from New York.
