In a blood-curdling incident, an Indian-origin man, reportedly an ex-BJP group head identified as Balesh Dhankhar, has been found guilty of drugging and raping 5 women. Balesh Dhankhar, a well-known figure in the Indian community in Australia, has been found guilty of raping five Korean women in Sydney after drugging them. The media has called him “one of the worst rapists” in the recent history of the city.

Prosecutors revealed that he had spiked glasses of wine and other drinks with tablets of the sleeping drug Stilnox or infamous date-rape drug Rohypnol. Shockingly, Dhankhar filmed the rapes on a camera hidden in a clock he bought on eBay, or on his mobile phone, which were both recovered by police.

The jury heard that Dhankhar had a very specific modus operandi to ensnare the women, using the same hotel, café, and Korean restaurant in almost all the rapes. A detailed spreadsheet discovered by the police recorded coded notes about each of his victims, with a column labelled ‘action’ describing how far the sexual activity went – those he raped were at ‘fourth base’.

He posted job ads on Gumtree for a Korean to English translator in late 2017 and through 2018 to lure in the women, all aged in their mid-20s.

The 43-year-old will be facing the court in May, and is likely to be sentenced sometime later this year.

As an influential member of the Indian community in Australia and with ties to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Balesh Dhankhar’s dark secrets have been exposed.

A District Court jury in Sydney has found Dhankhar guilty of raping five Korean women after luring them into his web of lies, drugging them with sleeping pills or the infamous date-rape drug Rohypnol, and then hoarding trophies of his callous assaults. This “politically connected predator” used a specific modus operandi, ensnaring his victims in the same hotel, café, and Korean restaurant in almost all of his rapes.

“One of the worst rapists”

The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper has dubbed Dhankhar as “one of the worst rapists” in the city’s recent history. He recorded his assaults on a hidden camera in a clock he bought on eBay, or on his mobile phone, both of which were later seized by the police.

When the women were unconscious, Dhankhar raped them multiple times at his studio apartment in the World Square complex in the Sydney CBD. The police discovered 47 videos of Dhankhar having sex with Korean women on his computer, catalogued under their names.

Dhankhar Created Fake Company

Dhankhar, who was a ‘lead data visualisation consultant’ for Sydney Trains during all of the rapes, was hired by Pfizer and the ABC for one-year contracts while on bail in 2019 to 2021. He created a fake company called The Asia Partnership, named after a real firm, he used to work for, but without their knowledge.

He posted job ads on Gumtree for a Korean to English translator in late 2017 and through 2018 to lure in the women, all aged in their mid-20s. When the police raided his apartment in October
2018, they found dozens of videos of him sexually assaulting the women.

Accused Catalogued Heinous Actions

The videos were sorted into folders, each labelled with a Korean woman’s name. Then detectives found a series of bookmarks in Dhankhar’s browser.

A detailed spreadsheet discovered by the police recorded coded notes about each of his victims, with a column labelled ‘action’ describing how far the sexual activity went – those he raped were at ‘fourth base’. The jury also saw videos of Dhankhar having consensual sex with other Korean women, but he allegedly secretly recorded them with the hidden camera.
