The Mahindra Humiliation row finally came to its conclusion after M&M chairman Anand Mahindra welcomed Karnataka farmer to the M&M family after he was earlier humiliated at the Mahindra showroom. As per the commitment, the Tumakuru showroom delivered the aggrieved farmer the promised Bolero.

Reportedly, the farmer, identified as Mr. Kempegowda, claimed that the executives of the showroom came to his home earlier on Friday and apologized to him. They also asked him to consider buying the vehicle and ended up delivering it in the evening.

For the unversed, Mr. Kempegowda, a farmer in Karnataka was turned away from the Mahindra showroom by sales executives after he expressed his desire to buy a Bolero. They claimed that he may not even have Rs 10, let alone Rs. 10 lakhs to buy the vehicle.

The Facts of the Matter

Mahindra and Mahindra chairman Anand Mahindra recently welcomed the Karnataka farmer who was reportedly humiliated at the Mahindra showroom in Tumakuru, Karnataka, into the M&M family. Mr. Mahindra took to Twitter to extend his welcome after the automobile giant issued a statement regarding the matter.

Earlier on Friday, Mahindra Automotive’s Twitter handle issued a statement wherein it apologized to the humiliated farmer, Mr. Kempegowda. The apology statement read, “We regret the inconvenience caused to Mr. Kempegowda and his friends during their visit to our dealership on 21st Jan. As promised, we have taken appropriate measures and the matter is now resolved.”

The statement further added, “We would like to thank Mr. Kempegowda for his choosing to be with us and we welcome him into the Mahindra family.”

Mr. Mahindra himself quoted the company’s apology statement and extended a welcome to Mr. Kempegowda. Taking to Twitter, Anand Mahindra wrote, “And let me add my welcome to Mr. Kempegowda…”

Mahindra & Mahindra’s Damage Control After Controversy

Earlier, when the news of Mr. Kempegowda’s reported humiliation made a lot of buzz, Mr. Mahindra reacted by tweeting, “The Core Purpose of @MahindraRise is to enable our communities & all stakeholders to Rise. And a key core Value is to uphold the Dignity of the Individual. Any aberration from this philosophy will be addressed with great urgency.”

Meanwhile, a Mahindra employee also took to Twitter and responded to the controversy by claiming that the company ensures respect & dignity of all its customers. It further added that it will be taking appropriate action and in case of any transgression, it will train and counsel its frontline staff.

A Recap into the Humiliation Row – Who Said What?

It all started when a Mahindra showroom humiliated Mr. Kempegowda, a farmer based in Karnataka, when he expressed his desire of buying a Bolero SUV. The salesman saw Mr. Kempegowda’s get up and taunted him saying he may not even have Rs. 10 rupees with him, let alone Rs. 10 lakhs to buy the vehicle.

Insulted by the mockery, Mr. Kempegowda dared the executives whether they will deliver the vehicle if he is able to bring the amount required to buy the vehicle. He then took a little less than an hour to accumulate Rs. 10 lakhs and reached the showroom with a bunch of his friends.

The sales personnel were shocked with the quick retaliation by Mr. Kempegowda and had to admit that the vehicle be delivered in no less than 3 days. This infuriated the insulted farmer who then registered a complaint at a police station.
