In a shocking incident, a Bhatinda-based man was caught on video thrashing a cop and tearing his uniform after he hit two motorcycles in Ambala, Haryana. The incident occurred earlier on October 13, when the cop, an Assistant Sub-Inspector, was posted in front of Gurudwara Maji Sahib on the Rajpura-Ambala Road. The accused has been charged and during interrogation, claimed to be in a depressive state.

Shocking video taken from the scene of incident shows the accused in a yellow shirt assaulting the cop. The cop in question can be seen trying to back off and defend himself with a grim look on his face. The accused can also be seen hurling abuses at the cop and making aggressive gestures to the people who are witnessing the scene like mute spectators.

The accused has been identified as Lavish Batra, a resident of Agarwal Colony, Bhatinda. Meanwhile, the cop who faced the brunt of the accused’s brash behaviour was identified as Assistant-Sub Inspector Ashok Kumar.

As per reports, the driver was speeding an SUV and hit two motorcycles. When the cops rushed to check on the injured, the accused got out of his car and started to assault him. After the accused was charged, his family submitted documents stating that the accused was on medications.

Further investigation is underway.

The Facts of the Matter

In a country where cops often receive flak for police brutality, there are incidents where civilians are seen attacking uniformed cops who are simply doing their job. In one such incident, an ASI-level cop was brutally thrashed by a man who was earlier caught in an accident where he hit two motorcyclists with his SUV.

The incident occurred earlier on October 13 at Gurudwara Maji Sahib at Ambala. The accused in the matter has been identified as Lavish Batra, while a cop who was the victim of attack was identified as ASI Ashok Kumar.

The horrific assault on the victim was caught on video, visuals of which are going viral.

What Does the Video Show?

The video shows the accused assaulting a cop who is already in tattered and torn uniform. The accused, in yellow shirt, can be seen hurling abuses at the cop and tother by standers. Surrounded by mute spectators who thought better than intervening, the accused then makes aggressive gestures to make a statement.

What Caused the Accused to Lash Out

The incident occurred when the traffic cops on Ambala-Rajpura road were lying down check posts. This was when they saw Lavish speeding his SUV. Lavish hits two motorcyclists, and injured three people on them.

As the cop in question rushed to check on injured, the accused came to him and started beating him black and blue. The accused also tore the cop’s uniform, as seen in the video.

Case Registered, Family Claims Accused was on Medication

Following the incident, a case was registered against Lavish Batra under multiple sections of IPC, including sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duty), 279 (rash driving), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering personal safety of others), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), and 427 (mischief causing damage).

During the investigation, the accused family submitted documents that state the accused being on medications. The accused during interrogation also mentioned that he was in a depressive state when the accident happened.
