In a thrilling moment caught-on-cam, a huge 2-meters long python halted traffic while it crossed a road in Kerala. The almost 6 feet 5 inches long python was reported as the Indian Rock python. The python was caught on video by several pedestrians and commuters at Kochi’s Seaport-Airport Road in Kalamassery.

Reportedly, the incident occurred earlier last Sunday and it took the python as long as 5 minutes to crawl to the other side of the road. Hence this became the cause of a massive traffic halt for the duration. The travelers on the road must be appreciated for respecting the presence of python and stopping their vehicles to let the python do its thing. Reportedly, the road is supposed to be one of the busiest one in the region.

Background

In prolific author Rudyard Kipling’s ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Kaa’ the giant python is portrayed as one of the allies of Mowgli. Little do many people know that the giant python is actually based on a real species in python family – the Indian Rock python.

With its whitish or yellowish skin having blotched patterns, the Indian Rock Python is one of the relatively smaller species in the python family. However, this specific species of python can still grow up to six meters (19.5feet) long. These pythons are non-venomous, and usually feed on small sized preys such as birds, young deer, even large boars.

The intimidating pitons are usually seen in snake conservatories. However, recently some lucky commuters in pythons got to witness the python in its glory on Sunday last week.
