In a tragic incident caught on cam, a man and his driver were mowed over by a speeding taxi after they stopped on the Mumbai Sea Link to save an eagle on the traffic ridden road. Although the incident occurred earlier on May 30, visuals of the same started making rounds of social media recently. The accident occurred when Amar Manish Jariwala, the victim of the accident, was heading towards Malad in his driver driven car.
Reportedly, when Jariwala and his driver were en route to the Sea Link, their car hit a bird. This prompted the duo to step out of the vehicle and save the injured bird. However, at the same time a speeding taxi mowed over the duo.
While Jariwala was declared dead on arrival at the nearby hospital, his driver succumbed to his injuries after being admitted. The driver was identified as Shyam Sundar Kamat. Meanwhile, after the incident, the Mumbai Police registered a case against the driver of the taxi.
The accused driver was identified as Ravindra Kumar Jaiswar and he was later arrested, the Bandra police station informed. It should be noted that stopping at the Bandra-Worli sea link is not permissible and the speed limit on the 8-lane bridge is 80 kmph.
The Facts of the Matter
Commuters on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai recently witnessed a horrific accident where a speeding taxi mowed over a man and his driver after the duo stepped out of the car. The duo had reportedly stepped out of their vehicle to save an injured eagle. The victims in the incident were identified as Amar Jariwala (43) and Shyam Sundar Kamat (41). While Amar Jariwala was a business owner, Kamat was his driver.

What Does the Video Show?
According to reports, Jariwala and his driver were headed to Malad when a bird crashed into their car. Jariwala immediately asked his driver to stop the vehicle. The businessman and his driver stepped out of their vehicle to check on the injured bird when a speeding vehicle ran into them.
Such was the severity of the impact that Jariwala was flung few feet in the air and fell with an intense impact on the railing and then on the carriageway.

Driver Succumbed to Injury, Businessman Declared Dead
Both Amar and his driver Shyam were rushed to the nearby Lilavati Hospital, only to have Jariwala be declared dead by the doctors on arrival. Meanwhile, Shyam underwent treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
Speeding Taxi Driver Sent to Judicial Custody
Reportedly, the speeding taxi driver was able to halt his vehicle after some distance. A police team rushed to the spot after the control room was alerted about the matter. The taxi driver in the case was identified as Ravindra Kumar Jaiswar.
He was made to undergo some medical tests and was later charged with multiple sections of the Indian penal Code, following which he was sent to the judicial custody. The complainant in the matter was the deceased businessman’s father Manish.
Police on Appropriate Driving Approach
Following the matter, a police officer was quoted in a TOI report saying, “Motorists should drive in such a way that s/he can see things that are 100 metres ahead and the vehicle can be controlled. In this case, the taxi driver could not control his vehicle.”
