Another COVID-19 spike has been reported from China with daily cases crossing the 1,000 mark. More than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in several Chinese cities, the highest single-day rise in nearly two years. The number of new cases is at its greatest level since COVID-19 first emerged in China in early 2020. Indigenously transferred asymptomatic infections accounted for 703, whereas local symptomatic cases accounted for 397.
Authorities Response To Single-Day Spike of COVID-19
Authorities are gradually avoiding the use of huge city-wide lockdowns in favour of a more tailored response, as public dissatisfaction with China’s rigorous zero-COVID stance grows.
As officials react to suspected close-contact situations, this has resulted in viral images in Shanghai showing students and professors confined for up to 48 hours on campuses and patrons kept in restaurants or malls until they are re-tested.
Lockdown Imposed in Several Regions of Changchun
Lockdown has been enforced on the 9 million people who live in Changchun, the northeastern industrial hub, due to a fresh COVID-19 spread. According to the directives, residents are not allowed to leave their houses for unspecified reasons and must endure three rounds of testing.
Residents must stay at home, with one family member allowed to go out every two days to acquire food and other supplies, as per the authorities.
Precautions To Avoid The COVID-19 Cases
The risks of a zero-COVID strategy have been exposed in Hong Kong, where contradictory signals from the city’s government have fueled food stockpiling and public fear of being detained.
Several museums in Shanghai will be momentarily closed commencing Friday, according to the city government, although there have been no additional large-scale closures or widespread social media outrage.
However, with each momentarily closed mall, social media chat groups have erupted, and enormous lines have formed outside hospitals across the city as individuals rush to obtain negative COVID-19 tests.

As per reports, China’s population is immunized up to 90%. As a result, the majority of instances are asymptomatic, making it difficult for officials to track down. As a result, there are home tests.
According to studies, asymptomatic infections were to blame for the rise, with the majority of cases being reported in three cities: Qingdao on the east coast, Dongguan in the south, and Jilin in the northeast.
As per reports, China is erecting impromptu hospitals, similar to what it did in 2020, to combat the spread of the Omicron strain. There were 1,369 new cases on Friday.
