In a horrific incident coming from Madhya Pradesh, Indore, a class 10 student died while enacting suicide. The deceased accidentally hanged himself after his leg slipped from the stool he was standing on and taking support from. The 16-year-old student was reportedly fond of making videos on social media platforms such as Instagram. In an attempt to make a viral video, the boy made a noose from towel himself on the roof of his house, and went on to dramatize the act of suicide. However, things soon turned took for worse.
It should be noted that this is not an isolated event. Earlier in 2017, DNA reported a man from Nagpur died while enacting suicide. Further, a boy from Uttar Pradesh also died after he shot himself while taking a selfie with gun earlier in November this year.

The quest for going viral, seeking validation on social media by sharing selfies and reels, have resulted in some drastic incidents in the past few years. According to a report from BBC, selfies alone were responsible in killing 259 persons across the world between 2011 and 2017. In the same period, less people died due to shark attacks (50) across the world.
What’s even more alarming is that from India alone 159 people died in the process of taking selfies in the same period. After selfies – reels, stories, vines, and other form of media are being created by netizens. While most of these attempts don’t end on a tragic note, some do so unfortunately.

The Facts of the Matter
Tragedy fell on a family of a 16-year-old teen in Indore who ‘accidentally’ died due to hanging. The 16-year-old teen boy was a school of class 10th and was a resident of Heeranagar Colony in Indore. The teen, like most across the world, was keen on making videos on Instagram and sharing them.
Deceased Was Class X Student, Was fond of Social Media
On December 14, 2021, popular daily Dainik Bhaskar reported that the teen had called his friends from the colony to his place to show them how he made video. In the video, he was going to dramatize the act of suicide.
After calling his friends from colony, the teen made a noose from the towel on his roof and stood on a stool with the noose around his neck. Somehow, things took a turn for worst when he slipped from the stool he was standing on.

Meanwhile, the children were traumatized by incident and made a run for their homes. The teen couldn’t be saved as his parents had gone to attend a wedding. The whole incident was revealed when the younger brother of the deceased boy came from his coaching class and found his brother.
Police Official Reveals More Details on Case
Sub-inspector Kishor Kumar was quoted by the Dainik Bhaskar report that the deceased teen was fond of sharing videos and content on social media platforms. On Monday, he told his friends about the plan of making a video where he would enact suicide.
When the younger brother came from coaching class, he found his brother and raised alarm. The teen was taken to the Life Care Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.

Similar Incident Happened in 2017
In a similar incident, a man from Nagpur hanged himself in 2017 while enacting the act of suicide. The man, identified as Manoj, was 27-years-old. He was attending a rally where he was to display the issue of farmer’s suicide.
Manoj strung a rope around his neck and eventually ended up killing himself by strangulation. Meanwhile, several people initially thought that he was acting, however, when someone raised an alarm that Manoj wasn’t breathing, people acted with panic and alarm.
