A flyer aboard an Air India flight bound to Mumbai reportedly suffered a panic attack, wherein for seven hours, he went on to shout and scream at the crew, at one point, even tried to strangle his wife! The harrowing high-octane drama which lasted for seven hours, occurred in the Air India flight AI-144, which flew from Newark for Mumbai, earlier on Wednesday.
Witnesses on the flight described a harrowing scene as the elderly man, accompanied by his frail-looking wife, unleashed a series of volatile outbursts. The man, a towering figure standing at approximately 6 feet tall and believed to be in his seventies, initially appeared physically fit. However, as per a passenger who spoke to TOI, the man was swinging between moments of calm and turmoil.
His verbal abuse spared no one, and on three separate occasions, he even attempted to strangle his own wife, who seemed delicate in comparison. The chaotic situation only subsided after a compassionate doctor aboard the aircraft administered sedatives to calm the agitated passenger.
His wife confided in the doctors, revealing that he had neglected to take his prescribed anxiety medication after takeoff.
It should be noted that Air India flights in the recent past have been subject to controversy, over unruly passengers and their tirades.

In a concerning turn of events, Air India witnessed another harrowing incident of an unruly passenger triggering chaos thousands of feet in the air. This incident highlights a growing trend of unruly passenger behavior on the flights.
While previous cases involved intoxicated passengers, the most recent case involved a passenger who suffered a debilitating anxiety attack. The unsettling incident transpired aboard Air India flight AI-144, which departed Newark for Mumbai, embarking on its journey around 12:20 PM local time.

Passenger’s Descent into Panic
As the wheels of the aircraft lifted off the ground, little did the passengers aboard flight AI-144 realize that their journey would soon morph into a living nightmare. Among them, a distinguished gentleman, standing tall at approximately 6 feet, started acting violently due to a panic attack that took over him.
Desperation and chaos took hold of the cabin as the elderly man’s pent-up aggression spilled over. Time and again, he lunged at his wife, his hands reaching out with a chilling intent to choke her.
Crew, Passengers Struggle to Maintain Control
Soon enough, passengers and crew members, united by a collective need to save the man’s wife, and make sure the man doesn’t become a danger to himself, rushed in, physically restraining the man and shielding his wife from further harm.

Passenger Gives Account of Horror
Pravin Tonsekar, another business class passenger who witnessed the entire ordeal, narrated the ordeal to TOI. “He was screaming for the aircraft door to be opened so that he could leave. He kept on screaming, ‘Stop, open the door’ and then when that didn’t work, he started hurling verbal abuses at the crew,” he was quoted saying.
For close to seven agonizing hours, the unruly passenger’s tirade of abuse and panic echoed through the metal confines of the plane. Even off-duty crew members, traveling in in plain clothes, tried to tame the raging passenger by engaging him in conversation.

Doctors Emerge as Saviors, Flight Lands Smoothly
Amidst the turmoil, two doctors aboard the flight emerged as saviors. Promptly responding to the crew’s plea, they restrained the unruly passenger and administered sedatives to alleviate his distress, offering a glimmer of hope in a distressing situation. The flight eventually landed smoothly amid the distressing ordeal.
