A Mumbai traffic cop is winning hearts of netizens after a video of him helping a specially challenged man went viral on Twitter. In the heartwarming video shared on Mumbai Police’s official Twitter handle, a traffic cop can be seen helping a specially-abled man who’s trying to cross an extremely busy square near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) road. The good Samaritan in question is head constable Rajendra Sonwane. The small 17-second video is surely a tear jerker, especially at a point where the person who’s recording the video, is heard saying “hats off’.
It should be noted that the Mumbai Police is known for its engaging tweets and social media interactions. The twitter handle uses pop culture references, puns, and tongue-in-cheek humour to spread awareness on developing issues.
Background
Poet and novelist Charles Bukowski once said, “You begin saving the world by saving one person at a time; all else is grandiose romanticism or politics.” In a world where all of us are deeply reminded on some important issues such as poverty, hunger, inequality, climate change, and more, we often lost the sight of the big picture. The sight of the fact that at times, helping a person who’s near us, can be as enriching as making efforts in solving major crisis.
Recently, a traffic cop working for the Mumbai Police became an example for all of us who want to do good, but are lost somewhere in our journeys.
The Facts of the Matter
The Mumbai Police is yet again the talk of the town due to a heartwarming video it shared on Twitter. The account is usually lauded for its humour, and usage of pop-culture to educate the new generation of netizens.
However, this time the Twitter handle put aside all its wit and humour, to acknowledge the good deed its cop did.
Taking to Twitter, the Mumbai Police wrote, “Our #MrMumbaiPolice, winning hearts across the ‘universe’! HC Rajendra Sonawane spotted at CSMT road doing what we do best – lending a helping hand to those in need!”
What Did the Video Show?
The 17-second-long video starts with a BEST bus passing through the busy CSMT intersection. However, soon we see a traffic cop lending a helping hand to a specially-abled person that’s sitting on a rolling pedestal.
Had the traffic cop not been there, it would’ve taken the specially-abled person a lot of time to cross the intersection, owing to the amount of traffic it attracts on an everyday basis. The cop is seen holding the hand of the person in need while giving away directions to other vehicles to halt for a moment.
At one point, one can also hear the person who’s recording the video expressing their emotion and saying “Hats Off!”
