In a tragic turn of events, a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore encountered severe turbulence on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, resulting in one passenger’s demise and injuries to several others. The incident, which unfolded amid thunderstorms over the Andaman Sea, has left the aviation community and travelers shaken.

The Harrowing Ordeal

According to reports, Singapore Airlines flight SQ321, a Boeing 777-300ER carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, was en route from London’s Heathrow Airport to Singapore when it unexpectedly encountered severe turbulence. The aircraft, cruising at an altitude of 37,000 feet, abruptly dropped approximately 1,800 meters (6,000 feet) within a span of five minutes, causing chaos and panic on board.

Amidst the harrowing ordeal, a 73-year-old British passenger tragically lost his life, suspected to have succumbed to a heart attack induced by the turbulence. Additionally, 30 other passengers sustained injuries, with seven critically injured due to head trauma sustained during the turbulent episode.
