In a horrific incident reported from Pune, a 14-year-old youth was detained for suspicion over raping a mentally challenged 23-year-old woman on two occasions. The alleged accused boy was detained by the Pimpri-Chinchwad police earlier on Wednesday and the boy is scheduled to be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. According to reports, the alleged accused took advantage of the fact that the victim’s family were out for work and the victim was on her own.
Reportedly, the victim resides with her mother and aunt, both working women. Earlier on Wednesday, the victim’s aunt returned from work and found the victim to be in a shaken state. She then found the window curtain pulled in such a fashion that it would block any view from the outside. On some inquiries and questioning, she found out that the victim was abused and raped by a 14-year-old teen.
On the suspicion of the teen abusing and raping the victim, her family members approached the police and filed a complaint. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Pimpri Chinchwad police station.
Further probed in the matter revealed that the suspect raped the mentally challenged woman on two occasions this month. Based on the FIR, the suspect was detained.
Background
In March 2022, a 26-year-old mentally challenged woman was raped in front of her own mother in Mallapuram, Kerala. The accused was identified as Muttalan Shihab and was arrested.
In April 2022, a 23-year-old mentally challenged woman was confined to her room in a hospital and was gangraped by three men. The woman as in the hospital room for 30 hours, and was assaulted through the period. Arrested accused were – Dara Srikant, Chenna Babu Rao and J. Pawan Kalyan.
Earlier this month, a 70-year-old mentally challenged woman was raped in Uttar Pradesh. The victim was abducted and was taken to a secluded place by the accused.
These are just handful of reports of marginalized women who suffer from mental or physical disability, and were sexually assaulted by accused.
Meanwhile, in Pune a 23-year-old woman with special needs was raped by a 14-year-old teen earlier this month.

The Facts of the Matter
A 14-year-old boy was detained by the Pimpri-Chinchwad police station for raping a 23-year-old mentally challenged woman. The boy raped the woman on two occasions when the victim’s family members were away for work or other reasons.
The suspected accused will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board for further actions. The victim, according to reports, lives with her mother and aunt, both of whom were out for work when the accused raped the victim.

Victim was in Disturbed State
According to reports, an FIR about the matter was filed earlier on Wednesday night after the victim’s family had strong suspicion about the matter. Earlier on Wednesday, the victim’s aunt came back from home and found her in a disturbed state.

Aunt Tries to Talk to Mentally Challenged Victim
The aunt also found out that the curtain was closed in a manner that it would block any view from outside. Suspecting something gone awry, the aunt spoke to the victim elaborately and tried to connect the dots as to what could have happened to the victim when she was out.
Family Acts on Suspicion, Accused Detained
Suspecting that the 14-year-old teen raped the victim, the victim’s family took to the police station and filed a complaint. Further investigation revealed that the suspect raped the mentally challenged victim twice – May 16 and May 16. The suspect took advantage of the fact that the victim’s family was not at home.
Following the complaint, the police booked the boy under multiple sections of the IPC, pertaining to rape of women with disabilities, and repeated rape of woman.
