In what can be considered the Rajkumar Rao – Patralekhaa Effect, a Bengali bride recently put sindoor on her groom’s forehead and went viral. The bride who reportedly identifies as Shalini Sen tried defying the traditional norms by putting sindoor on her groom who’s identified as Ankan Majumdar.
The couple got married earlier this month on December 2 and the visuals of the couple stepping into their marriage are making rounds of the internet. In the recently gone viral video, Shalini can be seen beaming as she’s putting the sindoor on her groom’s forehead while the wedding attendees cheer for the marrying couple.
It should be noted that earlier Bollywood actor Rajkumar Rao married his girlfriend Patralekhaa and the bride did something similar.

The sight of a groom putting sindoor on his bride’s forehead is quite a common sight in India, observed across most religions. However recently, Bollywood couple Rajkumar Rao and Patralekhaa waved the flag of equality where both the love birds applied the sindoor on each other’s forehead. This apparently inspired a Bengali couple based in Kolkata.

It all started when the video of Rajkumar asking his bride Patralekhaa to put sindoor on his forehead went viral. In the viral video, Rao was seen telling his bride, “Tum bhilaga do (you also put it)”, after he put the sindoor on her bride’s forehead.

Inspiration Strikes Bengali Couple
Somehow, this inspired a Kolkata-based couple who got married on December 2. The visuals of the couple defying inequality went viral, courtesy Kritika. Kritika is the sister of the bride Shalini who shared the pictures and videos on Facebook.
From the video, the bride Shalini Sen can be seen beaming with joy putting the traditional sindoor on her groom.

Wedding Officiated by Female Priests
Interestingly, it wasn’t the only act of equality that the couple took part in. According to an iDiva report, the wedding was officiated by female priests. What’s more is that the couple did away with the old-as-time tradition of kanyadaan, that was recently making all the buzz thanks to an Alia Bhatt ad. The video has so far been viewed for over 301k times and major news publications have shared the story.

According to a Dainik Bhaskar report, a Rajasthan bride asked her father to put aside the money that was saved for her dowry and use it for a great cause. The bride asked her father to construct a girl’s hostel from the money saved for her dowry. The bride’s father obliged to the requested and put Rs. 75 lakhs for the construction of a girl’s hostel.
