Multiple fatal road accidents were reported from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Bihar on Sunday. In Maharashtra, 12 people were killed and 23 injured after a collision between a mini-bus and a truck on the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway. The bus was carrying 35 passengers to Nashik from Buldhana. An investigation into the incident has been ordered.

In Tamil Nadu, 8 people including 2 children died in an accident between a car and truck near Chengam on the Tiruvannamalai-Bengaluru highway. The car occupants were returning to Bengaluru from a temple visit.

In a third incident in Bihar, 4 people died on the spot and 3 were critically injured after a tourist bus hit an auto-rickshaw on NH-28 in Muzaffarpur district. The auto passengers were residents of Sujawalpur. Angry locals gathered at the accident site but were later pacified by the police.

The three expressway and national highway accidents in different states raise concerns over road safety. Investigations will look into whether overloading or driver negligence were factors. The respective state governments have announced compensation for the victims’ families. Authorities need to increase enforcement to prevent such tragic loss of lives across the country.
