A brave girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut recently took on two bike-borne chain snatchers who attacked her and her grandmother. The girl’s bravery and presence of mind in the pressure situation has been garnering buzz on the internet. The girl has been identified as 20-year-old Riya Agarwal. The incident was brought to the fore earlier on December 11 when a journalist shared its video.
“In UP #Meerut, the granddaughter caught the miscreant who was running away after snatching her grandmother’s earrings and dropped them on the road, the whole incident was captured on CCTV, the girl was seen trying to catch the miscreant who was running away after looting the earrings, late night the police arrested both the miscreants,” the tweet read.
The CCTV footage shows the brave girl pulling two bike-born chain snatchers on the ground in a bid to resist the snatching and get the stolen valuables back. Although overpowered by the two-men on the motorcycle, she manages to grab one of them by the arm. Meanwhile, the man tries to get back on the pillion seat. The driver throttles the bike, and the woman continues to hold on to the miscreant driving pillion.
After the CCTV was given to the cops, teams were deployed at various places, and the two accused were arrested.
The Facts of the Matter
Bravery, in its truest form is when a person in the face of danger, shows mental and moral strength. A Meerut girl recently personified what it means to be brave, after she took on two bike-born chain snatchers who attacked her grandmother and tried to flee with her earrings. The young woman’s brave actions were caught on CCTV, thanks to which the cops were able to deploy teams and arrest the accused.
The incident occurred earlier on Saturday last week, and visuals of the incident have since been making rounds of social media.
What Does the Video Show?
In the CCTV footage, the woman can be seen holding on to the pillion riding accused in the matter. The two bike-borne accused, who had earlier tried to flee after stealing the young woman’s grandmother’s earrings, can be seen resisting the woman’s attempts to nab them.
At one point, the woman manages to pull down the pillion rider of the bike, on the road. The bike throttles and the two accused are trying to flee away from the scene. However, the brave girl from Meerut doesn’t leave her hold and puts all her strength into stopping them from fleeing.

20-Year-Old Brave Girl was Going to Relative’s House
As per the cops, Riya Agarwal was going to her relative’s house with her grandmother in Meerut’s Lal Kurti area. This was when two bike-born chain snatchers attacked the grandmother, and stole her earrings. Somehow, Riya managed to hold on to the bike, and fight the robbers.
The CCTV footage of the incident was submitted to the police for investigation. Based on the footage, the cops ascertained that the accused had fled towards Neel Nagar Market.
Accused Arrested After Encounter
From there, they examined another CCTV, which showed the registration plate of the accused’s bike. The technical evidence led the cops to zero-down on the accused’s phone number, and soon, they were accused.
When the cops rushed to arrest the accused, the opened fire on them. After the shoot-out, the accused were arrested.
