A matrimonial ad floated by bride seeking a husband with tier-1 ‘premier institutes’ degrees has been getting flak on social media. The matrimonial ad has divided netizens with Twitter users on one hand criticizing the bride, and on the other hand, lauding her in her pursuit of getting what she wants.

In the “Partner Preference” section of the ad, the prospective bride mentioned not wanting a groom born earlier than June 1992. What followed was a long list of elite Indian institutes, making the ad look more like a list on an education portal than an ad floated to seek a partner for life.

The prospective groom’s desired qualification is “MBA, Mtech, MS, PGDM”, and the list mentioned that the partner must be from “premier institutes (Tier 1)”. The list of institutes includes, “IIT: Bombay, Madra, Kanpur, Delhi, Roorkee, Kharagpur, Guwahati. NIT: Calicut, Delhi, Kurukshetra, Jalandhar, Trichi, Suratkal, Warangal. IIIT Hyderabad, Allahabad, Delhi, Bangalore. IISc: Bangalore, BITS Pilani, Hyderabad, DTU, NSIT, Jadavpur University (Calcutta)”.

The ad mentions that the prospective groom’s height should be between 5’7” to 6’, with a family that should be “small”, with 2 siblings maximum.

In the comments section of the ad, one commented reflected the consensus and its feeligs. “Whoever this is She’s never getting married”, the Twitter user commented.

The Facts of the Matter

Finding a groom or bride can be a tedious task for many. What makes the task even more challenging is a niche of preferences, which may filter out some genuine men and women. In the pursuit of wanting “exact” match, many prospective grooms and brides continue to simply browse matrimonial applications and live in hopes that the next man or woman they may see, is their future partner.

Recently, an ad floated by a bride has been making rounds on social media due to its strangely-specific preferences. In the ad, the bride mentions that she wants groom who must be from “premier institutes (Tier 1)”.
